Here is a critique of the Kleck-Gertz findings.
www.saf.org...

Also, that other thread has isolated incidents, I would be willing to bet that many more people are killed accident by guns, or are murdered by 'responsible gun owners' than robbers...

I'm a part of those 5% who "own" a gun... its not really mine, it was my grandfather's, its not loaded, I dont own any ammo... and to be honest, I dont even know where the gun is... somewhere in my house thats for sure, come to think about it I dont see it for 15 years

You own a gun, but you don't know where it is, haven't seen it in 15 years, but you're sure its somewhere in the house?

And you are preaching at us?

Also, guns have naught to do with Violent crime

Knife crime in UK

violent crime in AUS, UK

hehehe Cowboys. Thats good.

Seriously, we Americans did take over a frontier. Guns have been closely imbedded into our culture for 300 years.

Even today, I live out in the country and I KNOW that I can hunt for food to keep myself and my family fed should the supermarkets run dry.

As an gun owner, I KNOW that I can defend myself from someone attempting to rob or harm me. I don't have to depend on anyone but my own skills and training when the poop goes down.

As a gun owner, (one of many million) I KNOW that I can replace my government should they turn on their citizens. I know this because we the people have more guns than them.

Being a gun owner is cheap insurance.

The Iraqi insurgents are way better armed than any us citizen...and see how they fare against the US military...they are just blown to bits with cruise missles or hellfires.

You are absolutely right. They will never do it. And they will never allow an African Communist to become POTUS. And if it did happen, the Supreme Court would never quietly dismiss 16 lawsuits contesting it. And the Congress would never send us replies to our opposition, that they appreciate our concern, but they know better than the people they 'represent', and will do whatever the h*** they want. Never happen. If it did, we would no longer be a free people, and would, if Christians, be obligated to submit and pray for those tyrants, not shoot them. There are more important things going on right now, than our short-term God given rights.

Funny how you left-wing socialists forget "The right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed" part as well. Someone didn't pay attention in history class.

If you really believe that... thats ok. If the military turns on you I'm guessing you'd stand a chance against any Apache or M1 Abrams. Unless you and the other millions own that kind of hardware. The military will tear though you like a hot knife on butter... with you owning a gun or not. Actually for your personal safety, I think you may be better off without guns since your military also applies to the "shoot anything that moves" policy.

I didnt comment that article because of the contradictions between the title and the third paragraph.

Title: UK is knife crime capital

Third paragraph:

The tragedy occurred as a new study of 28 countries found 13% of violent crime victims in England and Wales had been stabbed or threatened with a knife. Scotland came close behind. Only Spain and Portugal had worse figures, while countries such as Italy, the United States, Estonia and Mexico all had less knife crime.

Ok... so... UK is knife crime capital but Spain and Portugal are worse?
very nice...

Besides I know some of the USA... and you prolly dont know europe. So let me tell you, no matter how many crimes you hear about anywhere in europe, you have no idea HOW SAFE it is in here... sure crap happens, like in any big city, but it happens everywhere... not like it happens in the US.

When other countries can be the "knife capitals" you guys have almost full blown urban wars there... from wakos to gangs, using army hardware... god, I mean... what are you then? The world center of armed psychos who answer the door with a gun?

Actually with a large enough force of simple small arms (hunting rifles, revolvers, etc.) we do have access to Apaches, M1 Abrams. for historical reference look into John Brown, an abolitionist, that was executed for treason against the State of Virginia. Also in a civil war situation many will upgrade their arms from the dead.

A large number of household products can also be combined in ways not intended to supplement simple small arms such as Clorox Bleach and brake fluid for heavy smoke screen for diversion, concealment of forces or to hide a retreat or feint.

What I find is telling in this legislation that archaic firearms (black powder) and not included. They never are for some reason. The caliber is always higher than conventional arms and due to advances in manufacturing they are just as accurate as their counterparts. Long gone also is the ramming of mini balls down the barrel as there are prepared cartridges ready for purchase.

Now some say you end up on a gov't database is no big deal. Post 9/11 means that all law enforcement agencies now share information. Unsolved murder in your neighborhood by a 9mm? Let's just call up the records of every registered 9mm owner for a suspect list and bring them in for questioning. "Well Mr. Smith it seems you have a file with the DHS, FBI, CIA and Secret Service. Would you like to explain this?" It just so happens that this Mr. Smith has a CDL with Haz-Mat endorsement and has filed for the FAST card to transport loads in and out of Canada. He was also a cashier in his younger days deposited a counterfeit bill in a bank deposit unknowingly. (which gets you an interview with a SS agent or FBI agent or both in my particular case. I am also listed with the NSA for my knowledge and working background of computer networks and other communications--Ed note)

As a person that did turn down an offer of employment as a LEO during the hiring process, I can honestly say I would rather face a tweeker with an AK-47 at a second story window than a sober, diligent man with a cache of some 30 black powder rifles in the same spot.

And that is the power of propaganda. As for most people it is just as relatively safe here as well despite our large known and unknown arsenals. In both cases it is often a combination of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and looking like a victim to those that would make you their prey.
