This is on the front page of Yahoo! just to let you know.

news.yahoo.com...

So, what do you think? Do you think that if someone could transform, they would pick a better animal?

One of Nigeria's biggest daily newspapers reported that police
implicated a goat in an attempted automobile theft.

So Yahoo reports on a report?!
I feel if this were a U.F.O. sighting
or Bigfoot claim this would be
singled out as a crazy person or
make some little green men joke.
Not even a jab or a pun. They close
with this:

Belief in black magic is widespread in Nigeria,
particularly in far-flung rural areas.

Instead they report the facts as if this
is true. The line between journalism
and BS are so fuzzy.

Did the man turn into a goat?!
I suspect no, but hey I don't have evidence
to prove otherwise.

I think that same newspaper had a story about a woman transforming into a cat when hit by a car.

The police probably felt stupid that they couldn't apprehend the thief so they made up a story that he turned into a goat. And then presented the goat as evidence. And I bet you that some people in Nigeria actually believe it!

Most likely the man ran around a hut and hid and when the police went to find him they saw a goat standing there instead of him. So they figured he changed into one. Nigerians are lazy people they steal money from us Americans in scams all the time. So we know they were to lazy to go look for a real man.

Thats bit of a generalisation isnt it?

A bit like me saying that Americans are the only ones dumb enough to fall for those scams

To the Op, it made for an interesting read but I doubt the validity of the story

Maybe, but I'd feel less stupid saying "he got away". Makes me wonder why so many of them obviously believe in shapeshifting abilities.

So, that would make him a scapegoat then?

Sorry, it had to be said…

Interestingly enough, Christian missionaries will tell you that they see stuff like that all the time in certain parts of Africa. People that have come out of Satanism (and here, I'm not talking about just dabbling in it, but were deep in the occult) will say the same thing. It's not as far-fetched as some would like to believe, unfortunately.

Now, that having been said, there is a tendency to blame everything on "black magic" in certain parts of the world.

As usual the sheep being deceived by the goats.

Aw come on, no need to be so cynical.
I've got a cat that was accused of shoplifting.

Aquitted.
