Workers cleaning up the Hanford Site, a huge Department of Energy cleanup site in southeastern Washington state, came across an old safe buried in a pit.

Cracking it open, they found a glass bottle — which turned out to contain plutonium made for the Manhattan Project in 1945.

Yeah, just put that anywhere.

First off, isn't something this dangerous supposed to be kept under lock and key? Oh wait.. it was still in the safe (whew).

You would think they would keep tabs on something as deadly as plutonium.

Just as the article states.. something like this could be used as a "dirty bomb".

Makes you wonder how much more of this kind of substance could just be lying around.
