More people died in car crashes, as a result of choosing to drive instead of fly after 9/11.
Because your chances of dying in a car crash the first 25 miles is exponentially higher then it is going to be flying.

Dude, you need to remember and understand they want to kill you. They don't care if you are a liberal or a conservative. They want you dead if you are American. They hate you and have been killing Americans for years.

You wouldn't think it was so funny if they were sawing your head off with a butter knife.

What do you think the USA should have done?

p.s. I am a conservative, not a Republican and I didn't agree with invading Iraq. However, we had to fight back.

So does this mean I can look forward to seeing Ronald McDonald, The Burger King and Colonel Sanders joining old bin Laden on the FBIs most wanted list?

Educate yourself and rise above it. Don't submit to fear mongering. That's all I'm asking. Quit supporting a war on something that has no effect on your life whatsoever.

Here is my view on the war and how we should have protected Americans from terrorist.

First, I believe we should go after the terrorist and prevent them from even killing one life.

Second, I support the TROOPS in Afghanistan but don't believe it was necessary to go in there in the first place. We are fighting and seeking a group of individuals not a country. It is difficult to weed them out when they have plenty of areas to hide.

I feel we should have let the CIA conduct its covert operations in order to nail these terrorist one by one if need be. I am confident this could have been accomplished with a lot less blood shed than we have seen during these wars.

Third, individuals like OBL and groups like Al-Qaeda, whether we created the boogie man or not, have to be dealt with. We can't just keep swatting at them hoping that they will fade away.

I value your opinion but I personally feel that they do have an effect on my life. Especially, if they are able to pull off another 9/11 and my family or myself are one of the ones to perish. The numbers are small but it doesn't diminish the fact that those people killed by terrorist would still be alive today if it wasn't for those terrorists. We have an option on obesity and whether or not to drive considering the risk of death, but we don't have an option when a terrorist decides to attack us.

Thank you for that response Jam. It is very well thought out and I commend you on that.

It's not like I don't care about American lives that are lost. I care very much. When you see how many have been lost in Iraq, how many have been lost in Afghanistan, how many we're going to continue to lose because of the "War on Terror." That is a greater loss of American lives than 9/11, if you submit to the idea 9/11 was not an inside job. Look at the money, the resources, the man power we have misused on a "War on Terror."

You and I both know that America's intelligence community (CIA and the likes..) and the SPECIAL OPS forces is tops in the world. Yes, I honestly believe they are the most advanced in the world and MUCH MUCH more advanced than dudes in a cave.

There is NO excuse that we couldn't use these tools at our disposal to quietly and covertly SQUASH terrorist cells. But we didn't do it that way. We made it a "war," we over-committed, we wasted American lives, we scared the CRAP out of Americans...and for what? A 'threat' that harms less people than hamburgers and cars. That's sad.

Like you, I support our TROOPS and wish every one of them only the best in life and I hope they all come back home safe, but I DO NOT support the ones telling them what to do. I believe the motives behind those in charge are not pure and what they are doing is not in the best interest of the soldiers or the American people. After our invasion of the middle east, terrorist attacks have only gone up. (Even with the rise they're still less harmful than hamburgers but carrying on...) This is proof that the "War on Terror" is wrong, it's a sham, it's a facade for something else. I doubt we'll ever know what that something else is as all we can do in our positions is speculate.

Some people like to say "oh what would you have done in a time like that" or "I'd like to see you make a decision like that" when it comes to terrorism... I would have looked into the eyes and soul of every American and told them not to be scared, not to live in fear, not to submit to fear. Sleep tight knowing the best and the brightest of the American Services would protect you. And then I would have used all those narsty CIA operatives and the like that we like to use to overthrow governments to covertly and quietly eradicate all known terrorist cells and any that come after it. I would NOT have sent tens of thousands of our own troops to a strange country we do not know or understand when we are looking for like you said, a few people, NOT a country.

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself"

So why scare the crap out of the American people? Putting the "fear of God" in them and the idea that a terrorist is going to come over and "behead you with a butter knife" as some sheeple like to say. They're not going to, we've never let them, and we have no intentions of ever letting it happen in the future. (I mean on American soil. I discount events that take place in the middle of their territory when we have Journalists and all kinds of media over there just to cover the "War on Terror." This goes back to the idea that we should have never made it a "War" to begin with, creating the very thing that put these people in harms way). Don't live in fear. Live your life every day to its fullest... it is too short to worry about a threat less harmless than your drive to work every day....

Like I said, your post was well thought out and I think we agree on a lot of the major points. Thank you for putting thought into it and instead of blindly supporting it... I wish more people did the same.

That's much more serious than terrorism.

At what point did anyone in the government hand u a Big mac and hold a gun to your head and force you to eat it??? Like i said above...we all have a choice, just like drinking and smoking...just some of us make the wrong one. I think we all need to learn a little self control and respect before we go blaming the government.

I hate when people do this! 1 you did'nt read the mans whole post 2 you were'nt able to comprehend it. 3 both of the above were false but you choose to take a small snippet of his post and use it to make him look bad/ prove your argument. I'm fairly new here although I "leeched" before I joined but the third option I listed has happenened to me a few times already, very bothersome. On to the topic I understand the basis of your argument that this is all over inflated and I agree but the comparison is no good totally differant animal. You can't tell people what to eat but you should try to protect them from attack.

It is someones choice to get fat and die, where it is not someones choice to have a plane crash into their office building.

Now, I still agree with you that terrorism is exaggerated - but it is not a sham.

We could go on with IF statements, but it is useless.

Even though I said it is someones choice to get obese, the best combatant of this is education. In many cases in the U.S involving crime or death, the offenders usually have poor choice making skills from abusive family and a bad environment as a kid.

You wanna know how to beat this "war on terror"?
EDUCATE our kids with what the real dangers in life are, but never strip their freedom away to eat Big Macs and Whoppers.

first off, you choose to eat mcdonalds...dont get me wrong, im there all the time, but im not fat because i choose to exercise. however you have no choice in whether or not your involved in a terrorist attack. also i dont agree with those stats...do the soldiers being killed not count?

I absolutely agree with you. My husband is in the USMC and he says that being over there is the most rediculous thing ever, besides sitting in NC and doing cleaning and laundry everyday.
I believe that there is no reason for us to be there. If you think about the economic decline in the world, this all started after the 'war on terrorism' started and was going for awhile. All of the troops that we have stationed over seas are getting more pay than if they were to be home, all of the equiptment that is sent over so that they are safe, all of this stuff adds up. On top of the casualities, that our country has sustained, from the troops being there and being victims of violence, to the vicitims of the 9-11 attacks. There are so many downfalls to being over seas, and for what? I know more than a few people who have been in the military and have been over there, and come home thankfully. My heart goes out to anyone who has lost someone in this war. Now there are thousands more troops going over to Afghanistan. My husband will be going there once he is back from Iraq. So many lives lost, for a stalemate. Nice.

The OP makes an excellent point. There are probably many other, more comic, things that could have been chosen as representing a greater threat to life than 'terrorists' - lightning? flights of stairs? eagle attack? but this doesn't take away from the concept that one tenth (or less) of the cost of the WoT could have been spent on education and sports facilities would see a reduction in the number of deaths of Americans far more than could be justified by expenditure on military action against a threat that will always be there.

Terrorists come in all forms and I defy anyone to tell me that there isn't a parallel between an organised (probably Islamic) terrorist cell and a couple of high school kids with guns shooting their class mates. I am not saying that they are linked (before people start on me) but who defines who is a nut-job and who is a terrorist?

Are the nut jobs responsible for recent school shootings terrorists? they have their own agenda and are willing to die to get it across. Is it credible that we expand the WoT to be a war on pissed off teens who like Death Metal and have access to too many guns. Look at McVeigh - no guy in a cave wearing a turban there.

We will always have nut-jobs
