Catch it with a live trap and carry it out to the boonies far from your home and release it.
As a native species in Australia, possums are protected by Australian regulations, even when they reside in urban neighbourhoods, and cannot be baited. If captured, regulations stipulate that they must be released within a small radius of the capture site as they are territorial creatures.

No, I am talking about the Australian Possum which (I think) is much larger than the American opossum.
Unfortunately, The Aussie Possum is very territorial, so calling the RSPCA and having him removed wouldn't do much as Aussie law stipulates they must be released nearby to where they were caught...
