Barack Obama has ordered that the controversial Guantanamo prison centre be closed within one year.

The US president has also put a halt to harsh interrogation of terrorism suspects at the Cuban base.

The camp, opened under the Bush administration and where 250 inmates have spent years without trial, is widely felt to have damaged America's moral standing in the world.

a torture camp , a concentration camp where internment was the norm.

if , as a country you want to lead the world in rights and allways take the moral high road - openly practising torture isn`t the way to do, ask the WW2 veterans who protested bush , its a trade skill to interrogate someone , strapping them to a waterboard amoungst other heinous crimes will only get the person tortured to tell you anyting to get it to stop.

small steps taken by President Obama and one day we can look back and see just how far things have truely come
