Actually, in John, it states nothing of a one time, all powerful, antichrist figure, that is the real myth. This antichrist person only exists in the
prophetic school of Jesuit Futurism, as was written by Francisco Ribera in 1590. This writing is nothing more then a part of the Counter Reformation,
meant to throw off the Protestant Leaders of the time who were saying that the Pope was the “antichrist”, the “little horn’, or “the
beast”.
The word Antichrist does not appear in either of the two other major prophetic books, Revelations or Daniel. In Daniel the Beasts are all Kingdoms, or
more specifically the World Superpowers of their time. In Revelations, the first beast is a compilation of the four beasts in Daniel, followed by a
new beast, the Final World Superpower. The first four beasts are known to be Babylon, Media/Persia, Greece, Then Rome. In Daniel we see a figure
emerge out of the Roman Empire, a man or station of men who might fit the description of an antichrist, but is still not the only antichrist who will
ever exist. This man is most likely the “Pontifex Maximus”, as the description points almost exactly to that stations duties, and historical
description. The Roman Pontifex Maximus would eventually become what we know today as the Holy Pontiff.
There are a number of reason why the beasts do not fit the description of a man, and must be a kingdom. One of which is that the Angel in Daniel
specifically tells us these were kingdoms. Secondly is that John of Patmos wrote Revelations based on the same symbolic language of Daniel, and it
would make no sense for him to confuse matters by naming a man with the description always used for kingdoms. In john it is also mentioned that (A) we
were already in the end times in the days when it was written, and (B) there were already antichists around back then.
What is referred to in John as an antichrist type person are people who fall under this description, who would increase in numbers during the
“falling away” or the “end times”:
2Ti 3:1-7 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce,
despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying
the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with
divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2Pe 3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
These types are the Man of Sin, the Sons of Perdition.
