Chinese authorities detain tainted milk parents to stop court visit

www.abc.net.au

Chinese police have detained two parents whose children were sickened by drinking tainted milk, to stop them attending the trial of dairy executives implicated in the scandal, one father and fellow activists have said.

The travel clampdown comes days after lawyers representing 213 poisoned children sent a bold but probably hopeless plea to the Supreme Court, seeking to sue several companies that produced contaminated milk.

Beijing is cracking down on dissent in a year of sensitive anniversaries.

In a parallel to the Chinese censorship of the inauguration speech of Obama, it seems that the Chinese Government feel that the parents of children affected by the melamine tainted milk scandal seeking either compensation or justice for the suffering of their children is an act of dissent.

To even prevent them from attending the sentencing though does also seem to smack of some kind of coverup.
