SACRAMENTO, Calif. - California might delay tax refunds to more than 10 million taxpayers or even issue IOUs because the state is running out of money, authorities warned Wednesday.

I first heard about this story yesterday on the radio. Yes, talk radio, and even I thought that Hugh Hewitt was embellishing. I knew California was screwed up, but I had no idea they were this screwed up. Imagine my surprise when I confirmed the story today! Hewitt was right! That means he was also right when he said the people in the California legislature were so stupid that they make Barbara Boxer look smart. Okay so that was a conservative jab, but can you imagine the sheer level of incompetence that it took to get to this point? The state has a deficit of $41.6 BILLION at this point and people are leaving in droves (144,000 for the year ending July 1, 2008 according to news.yahoo.com...).
