OMG! California controller to suspend tax refunds, welfare checks!

An interesting thing happen yestarday. I went to a hamburger fast food resturant and there were 2 young girls working the front register. There were 3 teenage boys working in the kitchen. This is interesting because when I was a kid, I held a similar job while in high school. I don't eat out much, but the last time I did, I commented to my friend there weren't any young people working in the the restaurant (they were all middle aged hispanics). We came to the conclusion the high schooler's must think that work is beneath them or the middle age help was more reliable.

It was actually nice to see some local kids getting some on the job training. I would guess maybe mom and dad don't have as much disposable income as they once did and they are learning to fend for themselves. This is good and should be encouraged more.

Things are going to change...they have to. Change doesn't have to happen with a revolution...they can just change as part of evolution.

I don't know where this will all end. What I do know is I'm going to hug and kiss my wife and kids tonight. In the morning I'm going to do the same and do what I do every single day...set out to make this world a better place every chance I get and try to keep a smile on my face in the process.

Don't know what to say to you. You have a very calculated and logical reason for your racism, hatred and bigotry. The problem is, you are still thinking within your small scope of what the problem is and you focus all your energy on things you can only see and not what you can't.

I'd really love to get into all the rhyme and reason behind your problems, but unfortunately it would involve you being able to stop staring at the crack, blaming those who can't afford cars for it and start questioning why it was constructed so shoddy in the first place.

You have some real moral issues you have to deal with. You sound jaded and pissed off.

if there wasnt a problem with immigration all americans would have free health and dental instead we have to pass those luxuries on to those who choose to knowingly live here illegaly and exploit programs we have inplace to help those citizens who need it.... That just results in alot of truely needy americans not getting the help the programs were setup to protect. They wont let americans own land in mexico but if we dont let them own land in america were the badguys gimmie a break! The major reason California is having this problem is because we have to pay for ungrateful criminals who leech from us and have the nerve to drive around with a mexican flag on their vehicles! CONS to our nation then it does PROS. Its a fact that mexicans are by far the most populated race throughout our nations prison systems,they hold the most gang member population in our country,commit the most crimes.
They literally make the beds they lay in...

For example: If I made 10,000 usd a year and decided I wanted to purchase a number things I couldnt afford and by the end of the year was in debt and lost everything what would you say about me...? Probably that I deserved it because I was living above what I could financially afford.

Well thats basically what they are doing on a even more grand scale only our government has the nerve to help them out with money which makes the problem worse and basically reinforces their behavior.They try to live above their financial capabilities our government supplies then with anumber of benefits that should be going to americans only and they barely scratch by which creates poverty.

Have you ever applied for welfare? If you can work you don't get welfare, period. Go on try it....

I don't need to ask for a handout, I pay my own way thank you. If more people shared that attitude, our country wouldn't be in the horrible shape it's currently in.

If you truly want or need something, go get a job or create one for yourself. I realize you won't get rich by working at a minimum wage job, but you can provide for the necessities without burdening others. It's not the government's or anyone else's responsibility to provide you with an income, groceries, free medical care, or subsidized housing by the sweat of their brow. Charity should be given freely, not mandated.

There are exceptions to this, but far and wide the entire social service system is rife with abuse. All the statistics and studies in the World will not change the fact that there's a shiftless and irresponsible element prevalent in our society today.

You sir are DEAD wrong on that count! We are trying to help my brother in law get his new house put up and as of yet he cant even get a contractor to plan out the foundation, because the states $1000 dollar an hour environmentalist hasn't decided if he likes the spot yet over a year later. (So far he has paid $15,000 to the guy and another $10,000 in costs to the states many agencies for permission to have it evaluated and permitted.)

Our friend and his brother have been waiting 4 years to get approval on the same site that their parents house burnt down on! So far they have shelled our $27,000 to get permission to rebuild the darn house! You cant just go and build anywhere in this state. You pay thousands of dollars in environmental tests to the state and to the person (s) doing the tests before you can even pee on your own land!

The truth of the matter is the average American worker is now doing twice the amount of work for the same amount of pay they received in previous years due to scaling down practices, layoffs, and an overabundance of illegal workers willing to work for substandard pay.

All these responses about how people "hate" illegals or are insensitive to their plight, blah blah blah, obviously come from people who don't have much experience with them. Try living in my part of Los Angeles for a while and tell me there isn't a problem. Try going to any fast food restaurant and see how many tries it takes to get your order right. It's a major problem, it's a major drain on the economy. The person who mentioned hospital emergency rooms used as general medical care for illegals is right. Go to an emergency room in Los Angeles and see how many English speakers you can find. How many hospitals have closed down because of illegals using them as their family doctor with no intention of paying their bills. California caters to these law breakers. The hordes of illegals who sit in the parking lot of stores like Home Depot harrassing everyone who goes into the store now have to have shelter, bathrooms and clean water provided by the store thanks to the idiot lawmakers in this state. Am I the only one who realizes how insane that is?

This is great! The wellfare system is a failure it just keeps poor people poor. I had an idea in which low-income housing was made for people with low-income while welfare (no-income people) people would have to live in a state appartment complex where they could get on their feet untill they found jobs. Or at least a drugtest to get your check.

LOL not the point. Point is unless you've had to apply for welfare you have no idea how hard it is to get. Even minimum wage jobs are not easy to get for some.

You seem to miss the fact the economy is dependent on employment and Unemployment. You don't even understand the system you support, with your 'reactionary blame everyone else for our economy' thinking.

If unemployment was zero, then the system would act to raise wages as employers scrambled to attain good employees, this would create inflation, or a recession, which leads again to Unemployment. So if all your welfare recipients got jobs you'd be worse off than you are now, not better.

Your tiny tax dollars that go to welfare is an insurance against complete economic failure.

The only way the welfare system will ever be fixed is if we get rid the system that creates the need for welfare, and unemployment in general.

Why would you require a drug test? Can't you just judge a persons ability on their actions. Not all drug users make bad employees. Not all drug users are irresponsible. In fact I'd say it's the minority.

Its not hard to get an minimum wage job if you are a citizen. Look online look in the paper there are always jobs out there. Welfare is a reward for doing nothing the penalty you pay for working is taxes.
The illegals in california are here against the law why should they be treated any better than a criminal for breaking the law. My girlfriends dad was born and raised in TJ, Mexico. He came over and worked hard. He now owns his house. The illegals come over get all the perks of being a citizen and are looked at as victims of somthing. As a citizen of the country you are part of the house hold. The rules are you pay your rent(taxes) and you clean up after yourself (follow the law) now if someone was to come into your house not pay rent, eat your food and make a mess of the place would you think he was getting the short end of the stick if one of your roommates kicked him out? That is what is happening here. They clog up the legal system and the healthcare system because for some reason beyond my wisdom they can not afford a decent place to live but the will use keeping their wives pregnant 9 months out of the year as birth controll. Im 22 years old and have been working since i was 14. Where is my handout for doing the right thing?
Thats why i do not buy the whole Home land security big brother thing. How can the government be watching everyone while this infection spreads all over california.

Its really pathetic how this thread that started out very humbly describing the finantial condition of the state has degraded to pointing fingers at illegal's as the root of all that ails! Get a grip. Illegal entry into this country by the people of other countries (notice I do not use the term immigration) is a problem. But it is in no way the cause of our current financial disaster. Our debt based society has got us into this mess and as far as I can tell there is no way out now. Why can't the citizens of California learn that the problem is a state that is spending more than it takes in. Every time a damn initiative hits the ballots to pay for this or pay for that Californians vote it in. Then they cry when taxes increase! We need much more conservative fiscal policy. If this state doesn't suddenly become much more conservative with its finances it will start shifting towards socialism soon.

You obviously flunked history. Looking after the needy is not Socialism when our Constitution clearly spells out providing for the general welfare. Most societies that fluourished HELPED their neighbors, while Greedy ones like The Roman Empire failed. People have paid into Social Security and whether they are disabled or elderly, that system was PAID INTO by these people (barring the illegals who should be sent back to their respective countries). Wait till something happens to you and you can't work, then add up how much your family paid into Social Security and see if you'd want any of it, a meager amount just enough to barely eat. That's all that program is, but it has helped people survive and many contribute to society. All of you people who are so concerned with stocking up on food forget the real reason all of this is happening. This is all prophesied in the Bible and numerous Creator-worship religions like the Hopi, The Maya, etc.. When God comes back, you'll have to explain why you didn't want to let the needy CASH OUT of the Social Security system INTO WHICH THEY PAID their hard-working dollars for years. I developed a rare illness through no fault of my own. There is no cure for it.
