Reporting from Sacramento -- State Controller John Chiang announced today that his office would suspend tax refunds, welfare checks, student grants
and other payments owed to Californians starting Feb. 1, as a result of the state's cash crisis.
Chiang said he had no choice but to stop making some $3.7 billion in payments in the absence of action by the governor and lawmakers to close the
state's nearly $42-billion budget deficit. More than half of those payments are tax refunds.
The controller said the suspended payments could be rolled into IOUs if California still lacked sufficient cash to pay its bills come March or
April.
"I take this action with great reluctance," Chiang said at a news conference in his office. But he said that without action to close the deficit,
"there is no way to make it through February unscathed."
The payments to be frozen include nearly $2 billion in tax refunds; $300 million in cash grants for needy families and the aged, blind and disabled;
and $13 million in grants for college students.
The social catastrophe is now underway! Store food, water, weapons quick before it's too late!
Listen to this goof:
Staged standing ovation. If anyone else talked like that they would have thrown him out.
Do IT NOW!

It will be a chain reaction now. So prepare now for self-sufficiency ASAP.
California set the precedent, other states will now quickly follow.
Save yourself fellow human! I'm starting to wonder about the availability of the internet now...

"dont be economic girly men" hahahaha, i nearly wet myself laughing at that!
Why has this come as a surprise to people? there are better things to pay for than grants for students and the likes, such as police, firefighters,
hospitals and such.

The problem is that this is not the only state that is facing this type of problem.
What bothers me the most is that there we have a government that is giving away billions of tax payer money to the corrupted banking institutions but
here you see what they do when in comes to the citizens in this nation they just give the finger and tell them to bend over.

What a sign of how bad things really are.
But the The libertarian smartarse in me says just deserts, it is this kind of spending that got them into trouble in the first place, especially since
they allow m illions of untaxed immigrants in each year who draw without putting anything back.

That's because they don't care about the people. They never did.
People are going to be very upset when they find that out...

Yes, I am afraid that you are right on.
And to the poster who said there are better things to spend money on than students I have to ask, did you miss the part about the blind and disabled?
What about all the families with children?

California is the highest taxed state in the Union. You have to be kidding me 10% OF ALL INCOME over 40k. Definately a failure of leftist economic
policies. Too much spending.

And now we will see how "Truly" dependent people are on the government.
The funny thing is California debt is nothing compared to the 53 trillion debt the entire US has.
Will the government print more money to bailout California...essentially "buying" and owning the residents there?
Here is your slavery...not that you really weren't a slave already....afterall you already worked half the year for the government and had no say in
it either way....at least those of us in the country LEGALLY.

Americans hate any form of socialism, looking after the needy is the very essence of socialism, hence i dont see why people are getting upset over the
blind and disabled losing funding from the government.
And being neither blind or diasabled or american for that matter i dont really care who loses funding, a balance book is not discriminatory.
