The Pentagon has suspended the delivery of a shipload of munitions to Israel after international concern that it could be used by Israeli forces in Gaza. The German-owned cargo vessel, Wehr Elbe, under charter by the US Military Sealift Command, is currently in Greek waters with its transponder tracking turned off to prevent its location being identified.

Amnesty International has written to the foreign secretary, David Miliband, asking him to make "urgent approaches to the US, German and Greek governments to prevent this, or any pending or future shipments of weaponry until it can be verified that they will not be transferred to the Israeli Defence Forces or other parties to the conflict in Gaza.

The truth is that Greece has refused to transit US munitions to Israel and no other port is willing to accommodate this shipment or to fuel the cargo ship. Turkey, a Nato member, also refused to accept these weapons.

The decision was forced upon the US by her allies. Most likely their governments were advised by their legal advisers not to be complicit in the war crimes being conducted by Israel. I surmise that there is also the moral factor in their decision.

You may recall the US stating two days ago that the munition shipment was planned months ago and has nothing to do with the Gaza assault.

Even though the US is a "World Power" it can't thwart the emotional situation and reluctance of teh US to step in and condemn Israel and it's atrocities. If teh US has backed this event, it will be a great step in the actual reality check to the Israeli Gov.,
But, if this is an act "Against" US wishes, there will be more unfolding in the very near future.

It is getting out of hand when a) their are more civilian causalties than Hamas militants, b) they hit reporters and c) hit a UN site. Enough is enough...time for a truce methinks.

Ok So whats your point?
both of your links say almost the same thing!

US says arms shipment to Israel not linked to Gaza

"This previously scheduled shipment is routine and not in support of the current situation in Gaza."

US cancels Israel arms shipment over Greek objections

The shipment had been agreed last summer before the current Israeli offensive in Gaza, he said.

First half pure speculation

Second half your own links state the same thing

I would like to to a link to your source of Turkey refusing this?
Also if you havent noticed Greece is not exactly the most stable place on the planet right now.

Excellent news -

Its only fair though - if the Gazans have their aid, supplies and doctors blocked, then the Israelis should have the weapons they use to murder these people also blocked.

Although. since the Gazans also have what little aid, supplies and doctors they already have blown up - perhaps its only fair someone blow up the Israelis supply of burning metal powder they like to shower on the kids...

"Yeah - I know we doused the kids in clouds of molten burning metals but they were CLEARLY way too close to the hospital we were trying to blow that some guy walking a dog told us might have been used to fire a home made fire cracker from. Geesh - have some perspective will you - these people are TERRORISTS!"

interesting, isreal has been planning this gaza offensive for 6mounths apparently so they knew why they needed so many, did america know when the order was placed? hmmm....

the US is having problems getting them delivered, why is this? because they're trying to keep their hands clean of the whole thing -its in a german boat now because the greek or turkish shipping company wouldn't take it and now they can't even get that to deliver it. Strange that it's not in an american boat, maybe even a military ship as it's munitions -it has been known to happen before. My guess is they're trying to keep this in a different pile of paperwork, maybe it needs little more legal detachment than normal? When the cows come home to roost maybe they need to be absolutely sure that they can't end up facing criminal charges....

so one would assume they did know in advance the ramifications of this shipment, or guessed at least.

then again the credit crunch might be biting the military industrial complex hard and this is just a cost cutting meassure - LOL
