TACOMA — Pierce County Prosecutor Gerald Horne says his staff won't try cases before newly sworn in Superior Court Judge Michael Hecht.

Horne told the Tacoma News Tribune he doesn't want to risk any criminal cases.

Hecht has been accused of patronizing a prostitute and threatening to kill him. The investigation has been turned over to the state attorney general's office for review.

WHAT!?!? How in the world can they justify seating a judge who's personal pending legal problems are so severe that they can't "risk" trying any cases before him? If this isn't a perfect example of what's wrong with our judicial system, I honestly don't know what is. That is certainly a great use of taxpayer dollars though, pay the guy for a job he cannot perform right now because he's potentially going to be incarcerated at some points and any work he did do could get thrown out. ...and people wonder why Washington state is mired in a huge budget defecit.
