I always was curious what causes these fish to do this. I've heard fish coming on shore one day out of the year in California, but I have never seen nothing like this.

Oh, weird.
I bet they go towards the source of the light, and since the light doesn't stop at the surface of the water, neither do they.
Most animals exhibit that. It's called phototaxis.

Ive seen this happen during the daytime as well, so it has nothing to do with the light source. Some fish just like to jump in and out of the water, the boat just happens to be in the fishy's way.
