It's an injustice to NOT marry girls aged 10, says Saudi cleric

www.dailymail .co.uk

Saudi Arabia's most senior Muslim cleric has been quoted as saying it is 'okay' for 10-year-old girls to marry.
A female who is 10 or 12 is marriageable and those who think she's too young are wrong and are being unfair to her,' he said during a Monday lecture, according to the pan-Arab Al-Hayat newspaper.

Muslim clerics are having there way with young girls and the world turns a blind eye , No one want to be the one to say there are sick but I will this is too much when children this age are pawned off to get married
There are no statistics to show how many marriages involving children are performed in Saudi Arabia every year. And it's also not clear whether these unions are on the rise or whether people are hearing about them more now because of the prevalence of media outlets and easy access to the Internet.

You need to listen to these clerics. They are the voice of Allah. When Allah says its permitted to hit 10 year old virgins, then its okay.

That comment seems to be kind of rediculous to me.

How many 10year olds do you know that are ready for this? There's a level of maturity that just isn't there yet. Hell that's about the age that people start trying to find themselves and develop who they are as a person. Not to mention marriage should be a free choice to commitment and not arranged in the first place. There can't be a true communion of love between two people if it's against one of their wills to begin with.

I'm not going to say I'm anti religious against Muslims. However this MIGHT have been slightly more plausible two thousand years ago when 30 was the average life cycle of a human. I've got a nine year old sister and I know for a fact there's no way in hell she could function in a marriage at ten.. hell I don't even think she likes boys yet.

It is not just Saudi Arabia. When I lived in England for a short time, I had neighbors that were from Pakistan (about 5 families living in one house). I was invited to a wedding and when I got there, I saw the "bride" was a 10yr old girl. I will never forget the fear in her eyes that I saw that day.

It happens all the time still, yet many people don't know it is happening. These marriages are hidden under religion and away from the pubic.

If that's the law in Saudi, then whatever. Personally I find it reprehensible, but that's one reason I could never be a Muslim. However don't bring those same Muslim ways over to the U.S. and expect us to accomodate. Marrying off a 10 or 11 year old anywhere here in the U.S. is not only immoral, it's a felony. Here in the U.S. the minimum legal age varies from state to state but even in the most liberal state, Massachusetts, it's 18 years.

Muslim clerics? I thought this was Saudi clerics that are Muslims. Are they claiming this in other Muslim countries? If not let's be fair here and not paint with a broad brush.

Its a broad brush they paint with and the deeper you look the fater the brush gets , they have girls as young as 3 being married , how much broader can you get, The Muslim Clerics are the educated class of Muslim legal scholars, they are most powerful in the Shi'a tradition of Islam, I will not condone that type of behavior,

Just as we do not want them to force their morals onto us, we shoud not force our morals onto them. They have had that life style for eons and who are we to dictate to them how to live their lives when right now we got virgin females selling their virginity for 3.5 million in an auction across the internet sanctioned by porn companies and thrown into the media that any western 10 yr old will see on tv. Not to mention all the sexual suggestive music, tv shows, daytime soap operas, fashion wear, and peer pressures even at the school age level.

How about we fix our problems first before worrying about someone else's that we have no business worring about to begin with?!!!!

Cheers!!!!

It is the most senior Muslim Cleric In Saudi Arabia ,Activists say the girls are given away in return for hefty dowries or as a result of long-standing custom in which a father promises his infant daughters and sons to cousins out of a belief that marriage will protect them from illicit relationships. A broad brush indeed

Where I come from we don't call those people clerics...we call them pedophiles.
It is amazing and sick that this is allowed.

You're missing my point. There are dozens of Muslim led contries. If Saudi Arabia is the only country practicing this it is unfair and inaccurate to label these people just "Muslim". It taints the rest that don't practice this.

One mans pedophile is another mans cleric. Perhaps we should say nothing, otherwise they declare Jihad against us if we questioned their beliefs. We already paid the price in American blood.

Let them do what they want. It's their country and their belief system. Bottom line is: If you don't want to get your 10-year-old married...well then don't. These people don't even live in this country and we've no place to stick our noses in it.

Lets put this into some perspective, I am English....and 16.

My history teacher I would guess is mid to late 30s, he is also English...his grandmother married his grandfather aged 13. (NOTE: This was just an offshoot of a discussion in class, it could have been great grandmother and great grandfather, but I don't think it was)

It wasn't so long ago us completely non-muslim, 'civilised folk' were doing some very similar things.

To be fair there are non Muslim places that do the same thing, go anywhere and find a remote tribe the america's, asia, africa, pacific islands I bet someone under 15 is married and there not Muslims, I'm not saying its ok lets get that clear now.

This happens with more than just Muslims so can we just remember that, before the discussion goes further.

How do we know every 10 year that is getting married is having sex also ? We don't

This has been going on for thousands of years what has changed in humanity for people to get married later. Lets say 4-5000 years ago people only lived to like their late 20's when did they get married why was it right then and not now regardless of increases in life expectancies; humans haven't changed that much were playing the same game with new weapons.

I recall people getting married at 13 and 14 in the US really up until the 1930's; how old were the natives when they got married, how old were the slaves when they had sex willingly ? All cultures have did it at some point so to blast someone else for doing the same is wrong.
