I’ve gotten so caught up in the politics of the day (Obama’s proposed policies, the political economy, and the inefficiencies and/or lies of the government in general) that I truly was getting depressed with the whole outlook for America. I needed grounding, so I turned to Ronald Reagan for inspiration. It was good for me to do this because, he reminded me of what America stands for.

I encourage all Americans to watch this video, because no one can say it like President Reagan. He makes some very good points that are very applicable in today’s circumstances and will be in the future as long as we don’t forget who we are. Reagan was certainly a wise man. I know there are those of you who won’t be bothered to spend 27 minutes of your life watching this video. To you, I say that you then haven’t earned the right to participate in this thread. This is my thread and I choose to not acknowledge anyone speaking out of ignorance. That said, those who do watch it, I welcome intelligent discussion and debate.

Actually, if we could get rid of all nukes then we, the U.S. would have the military advantage over everyone....but since you are ignorant of this conclusion, it isn't worth my time to explain further at this point.

That was just awesome... I am still in a state of shock... change a few numbers (higher) and a couple of names and that IS today. What a difference the "masses" are today.

Get rid of the nukes.... what are you smoking? There is not a dictator or totalitarian regime on the face of this planet that currently has nuclear weapons that would ever part with them. That is like banning firearms in the UK and expecting criminals (who don't follow the law or treaties) to actually abide by the law... don't happen.

Let's have a small test... successfully rid the US of illegal drugs. Once all of the laws you want are passed and we have achieved 100% success then we can use the same laws (modified of course) to rid the world of nukes!

When you get done ridding the world of nukes could you fly over to my house, pick it up and relocate it to Arizona for me?

So, I am 100% ignorant of your conclusion because it cannot be done except via world dictator / war with an ultimate victor... unless of course the whole world embraces a new one world religion of peace and suddenly has an awakening of love and fellowship.... ummm .... I for one do not like any of the above options.

Bro, America is just another impire, like Rome, Egypt, and all others before. It is infact just as evil and good as all other countries/govenments, it's not better or worse, just another evil created by man to have dominion over other men, that is the only reason why we have government.

People are able to individually govern themselves.

One day America will fall and some other country will come into power and everyone will praise and worship it claiming it is the best.

America stands for collectivism, seperatist and dominance.

I thought it was great... The video is worth the time... I beleive most of you will be hooked after 5 minutes.... Just so blatantly to the point and to the heart of freedom in the US.

I didn't mean to sound harsh in my last post, I just don't believe there is any conceivable way to rid the world of nuclear weapons that wouldn't consists of a real "big brother" in the form of a dictator, dictatorial world body, dictatorial one world religion, or worse... world war with a final victor (of what if anything that is left).

I have to vote with "peace through strength" as that is the only feasible option without a one world entity. And I believe mankind is to corrupt to live under a single government... with nowhere to run .... it wouldn't take to long before we found out that our one world democracy has become a one world totalitarian regime.... forever.

Dude, I don't live in some fantasy world. I know we can't rid the world of nukes, but if we did...is all I'm saying.
I listened to Obama's short speech here and didn't have an issue, but I figured since the Reagan edited in, "shut up" I figured that was enough to know where the OP was heading with this. If you didn't pop up here raving about the 27min speech, I quite honestly would not have listened to it. I happen to agree with both speeches. But Reagan wasn't the President that his 1964 self would have approved of, at least not fiscally.
...It does make me think that Obama will also not be able to be who he says or wants to be as President.
A seperate thread should address this issue but I don't start threads. We "all" should want Obama to be able to keep his Blackberry. I only think of this because I am curious on why Reagan of '64 wasn't Reagan of '80's....are these Presidents allowed to know what is going on or are they fed the information that "handlers" want them to know? (not that Bush cared) but Obama seems to have the intellectual curiosity to keep in touch with what is really going on.
Anyway, the desire to eliminate nukes, can only strengthen our national defense and any talk about it being some liberal peace "appeasement" is erronous. I don't hear him "Obama" saying that we would make the first gesture. We could get rid of every land based ICBM and have enough on Subs to take care of any issue.....preventing an arms race with China would be a good move, because we would never be able to keep up missle for missle with them....we don't want to end up like the Soviet Union. Nobody else should be allowed to develop the bomb either. Sorry, the club is closed....We don't need Syria or Iran to hold us hostage everytime there is some political crisis. I would think that North Korea will be the Country we use as an example when the time comes....probably when we decide to show Iran we mean business.

How about it stands for and glorifies ethnic cleansing, genocide, cutthroat capitalism and oathbreaking? How exactly do you suppose it expanded from East to West, displacing or annihilating absolutely everything in its path? It sure wasn't by keeping its word.

I didn't need to watch the video as I thought it was claptrap the first time around. Reagan was the most corrupt and treasonous president we'd ever had prior to the current Bush: just check the list of his appointees and colleagues who were indicted. On his watch we had Iran-Contra, Bank of Levoro, ketchup packets classified as an acceptable "vegetable" in school lunches, the S&L ripoff...the list is endless.

Reagan planted the rotten seeds George is harvesting.

I have a feeling that President Reagan would be appalled at your take on Obama. He was better than that. It's not 1964 anymore bud. Obama is your President now and if you were a good American you'd hope for his success. Apparently, you're not. And YOU talk about ignorance???
