I have been studying some documentation from the DoD and other sources on TALON and Operation Gardenplot and have come to the conclusion that TALON is nothing more than an extension of Gardenplot, albeit under another Code Word as another way of making people think that Gardenplot itself has been discontinued as a way of keeping tabs on the American public. Cablesplicer was another early code word for the project as well. MLK was followed under that code word program for quite a while. He was even being observed by them at the time of his assassination in Memphis in 1968. The 902nd MP unit was rsponsible for being the major Operation Gardenplot unit in the early to mid 1990's. They might still be the major unit responsible for keeping tabs on U.S. citizens as a repository for receiving such reports from other military police units. I would be happy to hear what, if anything, other people know about these DoD programs under Operation Gardenplot and TALON.

Operation Talon
November 20, 2006

Marines from Regimental Combat Team 5, operating in concert with 2nd Brigade, 1st Iraqi Army Division, rescued two hostages and detained 13 suspected insurgents north of Fallujah as part of Operation Talon.

The Iraq and Coalition Forces were conducting cordon-and-search operations as part of the operation when they discovered the hostages and apprehended the suspects. Coalition Forces also uncovered a weapons cache.

So first TALON was a combat operation, then it was a database. Does anyone have any real info on this TALON thing? Anyway, TPTB throw these names around like candy, so we the people don;'t get any ideas about what is really going on.

That was just the name of the operation, nothing more. Nothing to do with TALON in the OP.

TALON referred to in the OP stands for "Threat And Local Observation Notice". It is/was a database used by the 902nd Military Intelligence Group at Ft Meade, home of NSA, basically to track/monitor protests against US military facilities, among other things.

They just call TALON by another name. That is how they make it appear that they've shut it down.
