U.S. seeks ship to move arms to Israel

www.alertnet.org

The U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC) said the ship was to carry 325 standard 20-foot containers of what is listed as "ammunition" on two separate journeys from the Greek port of Astakos to the Israeli port of Ashdod in mid-to-late January.

"Shipping 3,000-odd tonnes of ammunition in one go is a lot," one broker said, on condition of anonymity.

"This (kind of request) is pretty rare and we haven't seen much of it quoted in the market over the years," he added.

Well no surprises here - according to the article, 1,000 bunker-buster bombs were already shipped to Israel in September.

All the while, Israel can stop aid ships heading to Gaza, but I'm sure they'll gladly welcome 3,000 tonnes more of ammo to keep the killing up.

The request for the ship was made on December 31 - so obviously the US had advanced knowledge that this operation was going to take place, perhaps?

It seems like an awful lot of weaponry for a tiny sliver of coastal strip, I suppose they might be anticipating the conflict could widen.

Of course the U.S. knew. It was reported that the U.S. signed off on it.

This also sounds like baiting anyone such as Iran to possibly goad them into sinking it on behalf of the Palestinians.

Anyone maybe think that this stuff was already purchased months ago, and they are just delivering it?

Reminds me of the Gulf of Tonkin Incident.

For some reason I'm thinking of a boat by the name of 'Taikanderosa' but i'm obviously not spelling it correctly as I can't find it online. Going to dust up some of my conspiracy vids to find it otherwise.

US says arms shipment to Israel not linked to Gaza
10 Jan 2009 01:02:38 GMT

(Recasts with Pentagon comment)

By Stefano Ambrogi

LONDON, Jan 9 (Reuters) - The U.S. military has sought to hire a merchant ship to deliver ammunition to Israel this month, tender documents show, but the Pentagon said the shipment was not linked to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

A Pentagon spokesman said the ammunition was for a U.S. stockpile in Israel. The U.S. military pre-positions stockpiles in some countries in case it needs supplies at short notice.

In the tender documents, the U.S. Navy's Military Sealift Command (MSC) said the ship was to carry 325 standard 20-foot containers of what is listed as "ammunition" on two separate journeys from the Greek port of Astakos to the Israeli port of Ashdod in mid-to-late January.

Air Force Lt. Col. Patrick Ryder, a Pentagon spokesman, said he would not comment on shipping routes for security reasons but confirmed a shipment of ammunition to Israel was planned.

"The delivery of ammunition is to a pre-positioned U.S. munitions stockpile in Israel in accordance with a congressionally authorized 1990 agreement between the U.S. and Israel," Ryder said.

"This previously scheduled shipment is routine and not in support of the current situation in Gaza."
This is just out guys

The shipment originated in the United States, Ryder said. He provided no further details on the intended cargo.

A "hazardous material" designation on the manifest mentions explosive substances and detonators but gives no other details.

The request for the ship was made on Dec. 31, with the first leg of the charter to arrive no later than Jan. 25 and the second at the end of the month.

The tender for the vessel follows the hiring of a commercial ship to carry a much larger consignment of ordnance in December.

A German shipping firm which won that tender confirmed the order when contacted by Reuters but declined to comment further. (Additional reporting by Andrew Gray in Washington

Ok may i be the first to yell hypocrisy...

IF the Israeli's REFUSE the Iranian aid ship on its way to supply aid to the dying....

I think this is outlandish and surely tarnishes the American Flag further, especially in the face of global outcry.

America.... why is this allowed to happen?

Anyone think the current situation wasn't planned at least a month ago?

Or not to mention the Lusitania. Prior to the first world war. Germans contested that the Lusitania had arms and ammunition aboard. American officials denied it. Guess who was telling the truth? The Germans. They had spies watching the American ports.
