Here is a link to the story of the Taranis in the paper and also the mention of the craft having tentacles hanging from it.
the-daily-behemoth.blogspot.com...
Any ideas of why it might have tentacles?

The more i look it would seem that in nov 2007 it was announced that the Taranis would have ground tests in 2009 and then go on to flight tests in 2010. Why would it of been spotted already.
No pictures exist of it so why would they admit to it being in flight already and yet they claimed it wouldnt test fly until 2010?

No UFO. One of the new USAF RC stealths. Its called the X-47B

A very advanced RC toy. I wouldnt mind having one for the local RC air show.

Cheers!!!!

There may not be any mystery to any of this, normally the stated timeframe for completion of military projects is pure fiction anyway.

If they are unveiling this UAV bomber now, you can bet you arse it's at least a decade, possibly two, out of date.

Pretty much standard practice really.

Don't want potential enemies knowing exactly what you have in your arsenal do they.

Ignoring the above, it's just ahead of schedule...unusual for contractors to ahead, but it could just be that.

spikey.

hey folks, I live in the Ribble Valley between Salmesbury BAE Systems (where Typhoon and in the futre F-35 is fabricated) and Warton BAE Systems (where Typhoon and probably f-35 is/will be, respectively assembled and test flown). Around this time last year I saw Taranis in the air in this area, I am something of an aircraft enthusiast and have no doubt about what I saw. At the time BAE were telling us on their official site that it wouldn't be test flown until 2012 (and at a BAE facility in Australia!!) The craft I saw also had a Typhoon escort of one that I definately saw and I think, another that I could only hear in the cloud cover somewhere. The Typhoon I saw was missile armed. The sighting only lasted around twenty seconds or so as they passed a break in the clouds but the sun was lighting up the underside of the aircraft beautifully. Taranis had a mostly dark colouring but the air beween the clouds was so clear and you could see rectangular patches of a lighter colour (possible repair/replacement panels??) I wouln't say it was a scale model given the comparison in size with Typhoon (very roughly around two thirds of the size) and that they were quite obviously at a similar altitude, possibly 2000-3000 ft. The typhoon I saw was obviously tailing or chasing taranis and only came into view moments before Taranis disappeared abover the clouds again but seemed to be travelling a little faster. The engine powering Taranis was also definately very similar sounding to the Hawk trainer which which it shares it's Adour engine (much quieter than tyhoon with a definate high pitched jet 'whistle'). I have no doubt that Taranis is already undergoing test flights at this time. As I said I have an enthusiastic interest in aircraft of all types and a fair knowledge of what is generally believed to be out there in a conventional sense. Ive also lived near airfields most of my life as my parents worked for both BAE systems (at Warton) and Agusta-Bell (as it was) in Frosinoni, Italy. On asking my grandfather worked in the Fleet Air Arm and BAe about UFO's in general he has always insisted that they were of Earthly origin and that he knew of programs to produce very 'UFO' like craft. He sadly died some time ago before my interest in these things really blossomed and I often 'kick myself' for not asking more direct detailed questions, but I was a child at the time so maybe he wouldn't have ellaborated too much anyhow. Things I do remeber him saying are that he had seen things that 'would make your hair curl' figuratively one assumes! Also that there were things he could tell me that I would never believe in any case. He was an engineer mostly concerned with propulsion tech (jet engines, missile systems). Anyway I offer this evidence that Taranis is indeed flying and its my belief that there are possibly dozens of similar systems out there being test flown or even operational. The main reason for the secrecy these days is more likely to be commercial than political.
