I don't think that they're gay, just good friends. I once heard that Bert was Dominican and Ernie was Hatian though. Chew on that!

There was this ridiculous rumor years ago that they we going to give Bert AIDS in order to teach kids about it. That would have been hysterically vicious!

I can't believe this thread is as old as it is.
I just heard today some guy is fighting to "out" Bert and Ernie and thinks they should be made gay in the program that features them. Although I am NOT homophobic I still think this is one of the most ridiculous ideas that has been floated in a while. Fortunately the show has no intentions to bow under this pressure to do so.
