No problem.
It might not seem like that much of a problem if some do not have tv for awhile, but those folks who need a converter box, might not have good or any
access to internet either. Most sites these days are geared for broadband access. Remote locations, unless being fed by satellite internet access, use
old dialup access. But either way, the entire HDTV plan and transition education effort should have began at least 2 years ago instead of 8 months
ago, and the program should have covered not just radio and tv psa announcements, it should have also had a internet program as well, offering
websites a few cents per ad to run notices about HDTV, or something similar.
Plus a mail campaign would have worked well, along with an email campaign. Announcement inserts in W2 envelopes, tax return check envelopes, all kinds
of ways could have been utilized to educate the public.
But as usual, the government drops the ball alot. Many broadcasters tried to supplement the lack of FCC education campaign but they were faced with
the massive expense of purchasing brand new digital equipment to meet the deadline. Some stations, that are small budget low power operations, wont
make the transistion date and simply go dark for good, and have their frequency allotment for digital, along with their license, sold at auction.
Its just a huge mess that could have been dealt with in far better ways.
Cheers!!!!
