U.N.: Arabs and West Agree on Gaza Resolution
www.examiner.com
UNITED NATIONS (Map, News) - Key Arab nations and Western powers reached agreement Thursday on a proposed U.N. resolution calling for an
immediate and unconditional cease-fire between Hamas militants and Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip, the head of the Arab League said.
Amr Moussa said Arab nations want the U.N. Security Council to vote on the resolution on Thursday.
It will be up to Israel and Hamas to decide to stop their military activities, but the resolution was supported by the United States, Israel's closest
ally, and Arab nations which have close ties to Hamas.
"The key elements are the withdrawal (of Israeli forces), cease-fire, the humanitarian situation, the opening of crossings," Moussa said.

It looks like the U.N. has found a resolution that can be supported by both the U.S. and Arab nations with close ties to Hamas. This resolution was
proposed by Britain and supported by Egypt and France. Hamas has yet to agree to it, and Palestinians in Syria are also holding out for better
terms.
This could offer some hope to those who wish for an immediate cease-fire and the possibility for a lasting peace, not just a temporary halt to
hostilities.

That is good news that they have agreed on a resolution. Now maybe they can get their heads together and find a freaking solution to this problem once
and for all. Demanding two groups to stop fighting is not the same as making them stop fighting.

According to the TV news - BOTH SIDES continued the war during the 3 hour cease fire. BOTH SIDES.
This article says that Arabs and the West agree ... but it didn't say that the Israelies and the Palestinians - who are the ones actually doing the
fighting - agree.

was anyone else hit with the significance of Palestinians in Syria holding out???? WHAT!!!!! Wow. I guess beggars can be choosers.
Am I supposed to believe (yes, i know the source), that the friends and families of the apparent "genocide victims" wish to hold out for a better
deal? What could that POSSIBLY cause but more death. If this report turns out to be true, the Palestine has gotten a lot more shady in my opinion.

"I BELIEVE" the Syrians that they were referring to were ousted Hamas leaders who ran into the waiting arms of Syria.
"I believe" they don't care about anyone’s civilians injuries/deaths.
What we need to see is if both sides agree to this and adhere to it.
I REALLY wonder what reassurances have been given to Israel and by whom, that the Hamas won't do their usual rearm and attack again?
Any case, stop to fighting is good.
Stop to attacks is better.
Lasting peace is the ultimate goal, lets all shoot for the ultimate goal.

Palestine organizations, especially Hamas, won't stop attacking Israel until Israel ends racist policies and withdraws to the original border mandate
set by the British back in 1967, before the 6 day war at that time in 1967 that ordinary Palestinians probably did not even start.
Israel is attacking the wrong enemy, and always has used threats as a pretext to attack.

As of the update I posted late this afternoon, neither Hamas nor Israel have made firm agreements. Israeli representatives did go to Egypt today to
try to work out details of an agreement, but they have not yet made a firm commitment. Hamas and its representatives in Syria have agreed to
nothing.
The U.N. is meeting as of this writing and I hope something definite can be achieved.

That's right. It really looked like Israel was going to commit yesterday, but then the U.S. abstained from the U.N. vote at the last minute and that
may have been a factor in Israel's backing out, too. If one of their strongest allies isn't going to pressure them, why should they bend now until
they can get their ultimate goal--an absolute assurance that Hamas will cease their rocket attacks and not resume new hostilities as soon as they
gather force again?
Hamas has stated it was not invited to the table during negotiations and thus do not recognize them. They want to be recognized as a legitimate
government in Gaza and also want the borders opened. Israel has closed them to prevent more weapons from entering.
In short, the whole cease-fire effort has apparently fizzled out.
That is very disappointing to much of the world.
