LOS ANGELES — In an announcement that launched a thousand unprintable puns, adult-entertainment moguls Larry Flynt and Joe Francis said
Wednesday that they are asking Washington for a $5 billion federal bailout, claiming that the porn business is suffering from the soft economy.
“The government’s handing out money to the auto industry,” Francis, producer of the “Girls Gone Wild” video series, said on the phone from
his Santa Monica office. “Why shouldn’t it hand some to an industry the nation could not live without?”

Keith Olbermann did a really funny commentary on this:

I saw this on the news this morning. They must be kidding. I mean seriously. Because of depression caused the by the crisis, less people are
interested in porn? Yeah right Larry Flint.

Honestly it makes about as much sense as handing it out to the bankers. We would probably get just as much of a return on it, and either way its
something like getting screwed.

Well, it's not like they're really gonna get any money. But I thought the attempt was a gutsy one... hilarious. Personally, I think we should also
bail out the tobacco industry, vibrator manufacturers, and ailing casinos.

I think Paris Hilton can either work for cheap or she can bail them out.

You people have all missed the point entirely.
I don't think they actually expect any money (or to be taken seriously unfortunately).
They are however making a valid point that is being missed by all the snickering, frat boy mentality, prudish, and religious types out there.
Government bailouts are a bad idea - for any industry.
As usual, self-righteous moralist and "status seekers" have underestimated the intelligence of ordinary people.

no, weve gotten the point. And i'll say they underestimated the average thinkers intelligence when we actually start to do something about it.
Until that time, apparently, they are spot on.

Exactly, they are making a great point, perhaps more Americans will open their eyes if people in the porn industry starts to exercise the rights to
have the tax payer bail them out.
After all it is the tax payer the ones that can afford to link to porn sides and buy their porn magazines.
BTW the do all the physical labor themselves

Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. If the government starts handing out money (like they are doing now), it would be silly to say "Well, I'm in an
industry that people don't want to bail out so I won't get in line."
I personally think we should demand from our representatives that they accept the proposal and bail out the porn industry. Maybe that will get
their point across: bailouts are inherently self-extending in scope, they do absolutely nothing to help the economy in any manner other than extremely
short-term, they are inefficient, they carry with them an inherent long-term disastrous consequence, and they do not directly help out the ones in
real need: the people.
Perhaps they should bail out the people themselves. I'll be happy to hire some folks if the government is paying the wages...

I want a bailout. I want the government to pay off my mortgage, my negligble bills, and pay my utilities for the rest of my life. Why shouldn't
they. I've only worked since I was sixteen, have a college education, and at least I was responsible with my money. They let the screwups have the
money while those of us have tried to be honest, responsible, tax paying citizens are getting screwed. Basically, I wish they had at least used a
little KY.

How depraved the human condition truly is!! This is disgusting and an embarrassment to America. Honestly, with all the trials we are facing right
now, on a global basis, we have 'sex czar' Larry Flint and his sidekick, Joe Francis to spend more of your hard earned money.
Just one more thing to boost America's image around the world!

I suppose that Ron Jeremy will soon march to Capital Hill on behalf of his industry. As much as this bailout request is ridiculous, seeing Mr. Jeremy
make his case before congress would be a funny sight.

Soft economy? What kind of jargon is that? "Oh, Jeremy, your economy is hurting meeeee . . ."
Flynt went mad. How in the world could $5'' rescue the porn industry?

I personally took it as a joke. A good one at that.
It is funny how we never hear anything on how all this bailout money is being used.
I am a "conservative" but I find it funny that the current administration is even named republican. Oh yeah they aren't...they just hopped in that
ship to get the votes from uneducated people and it sure worked
On a side note...I was a Bush supporter. I know a lot of other people here were too. Whether you agree with the war or not, his administration DONE
THIS. Congress didn't help much either, but at least with a president that knows his way around would of never let this happen.

Well at least if they get a bailout, we'll be able to SEE what they spent it on.
I think the story and the publicity it's generated is great though. I saw it on CNN last night, and it seemed the anchor wasn't particularly happy
to be having to report on it. I don't respect Flynt and Francis that much but they have a point. Pornographer should definately be higher in the list
of esteemed professions than politician, banker, or Auto CEO given recent events.
