I've got no love for the military. Any of them. Swords to plowshares...
However, while the ships are sailing the seas, they might as well be doing something useful. Protecting merchant ships seems to be a good thing.
I don't see why the pirates should hold the world to ransom and get away with it. Still, when they have as many problems as they do in their
arse-backwards country (Somalia), you can see why they do it.
A bigger fix will be required for a permanent solution. At least we're seeing an effort to try and make the seas safer for civillians.
