ATLANTA - Health officials are investigating a salmonella outbreak that has reportedly sickened nearly 400 people in 42 states, but they don’t know how the bacteria is spreading.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not named all the states.

Ohio officials say at least 50 people there have been sickened by salmonella since October. California officials report 51 cases as of last week. Michigan had 20 cases and seven people there were hospitalized

Well folks, here we go again with the Salmonella thing.

I personally got this last year and it is not fun. Please everyone, be careful on your preparation and cooking of foods.

It sure seems like this is a constant worry these days. I never remember hearing about this with such regularity 15 years ago.

Are we getting sloppy in the field?? You know, fertilizer or workers peeing on the crops??

How 'bout the eggs, are they not cleaned properly before being rushed to market or are people simply under cooking them??

Or is it in Quality control??

Anyone have a good answer??

U know , my family has eaten fresh eggs for 30+ years and never once has there ever been a case of salmonella . I believe that the food is being contaminated deliberately. Be careful who you buy your food from, even at the grocery store. Check the labels and use locally grown American produced food.

Since October? Is that an outbreak? why didn't you hear about things like this 15 years ago? How vast was the internet back then and the 24 hour lets make the news if we have none.
....if I owned one of these networks and wanted to do a "sick" experiment and prove to a friend on a $5 bet how I could get legislation passed on...or a ban on...or destroy the market on...lets pick grapes. I could run story after story about people getting sick on grapes or how some studies show grapes cause cancer in some populations or report on every single child that has choked on a grape in the last 3 months. I would win the bet.
....what if we were shown the faces of every car fatality in the country on a day to day basis? Fear....fear to breathe....fear to live....stay tuned for the next thing to be afraid of, details at 1100 or in 8 minutes if you have cable.

Hey there!!

You're right, why didn't I think of that. Of course it's the 24/7 news availability.

All I remember from years ago is that one week you would read in your morning paper that, lets say..eggs..are bad for you and should only be eaten once a week. Then a month later there is a story that eggs are a super food and can be eaten without restriction.

It was the same with "Red" meat and shellfish and so on and so on.

Hey man,
I really had it and it was a real pain. My Mom had caught C-dif, the new super bug that is running rampant in the hospital's, following her surgery. Then I thought that I caught it from her. Nope, turns out I got Salmonella.

Here's the kicker....Once it was confirmed the CDC calls and grills me for almost an hour about my last week prior to feeling ill. Where did I eat, what did I eat, who's house's were you at, blah, blah, blah. They took it way seriously. I felt like I was on trail for God's sake.

according to this
www.cdc.gov... As of August 25, 2008, a total of 1,442 persons had been reported infected with the outbreak strain. At least 286 persons have been hospitalized, and the infection might have contributed to two deaths.
