The road is parallel to a river on its west side and runs through a very deep gully along with the river and the rail tracks, which are btw, on the
other side of the river, not next to the road.
On the right side of the road if you are going north into Thermop, the mountians are extremely steep and often snow avalanches occur. That strech of
road is so dangerous in the winter months, that it is usually closed depending on the snow and ice accumilation.
The road has alot of blind curve turns and is very narrow. There is alot of industrial traffic that goes through there.
Cheers!!!!

This is probably the highway you were on, and what you were seeing.
I'm sure the odd-spacing you noticed is just because you were drunk or something.
The Lincoln Highway run east/west in southern Wyoming.
The highway I noticed them on is US-20/WY-789 running north/south in central Wyoming.
Drunk or something....
I believe I'll heed the ATS motto (Deny Ignorance) regarding that comment...
I'm denying your post lol

There isnt any room for runaway truck ramps. The signs are next to elongated parking areas. the road is not steep at all, it is fairly even from Red
Rock on the Thermop side to Shoshoni.
Cheers!!!!

Yes, those signs are on the river side of the road at regular intervals through the whole strech of the passage.
Next time I go thru there, which is sometime within 2 weeks to go work on a transmitter up at Boysen Peak, I will get some pics for everyone.
Cheers!!!!

cars

That comment was very disrespectful

Perhaps i should have clarified the location better...
The stretch of highway is between Shoshoni and the canyon.

BINGO!!! You win!!! Your exactly correct. They are markers for the parking areas that are on the west side of the road. That is the only space where
parking areas can be. There are maybe 2 or 3 places along the length of that road that have parking on the right, but those are very small and are
usually someone's driveway leading up to their house on the hillside.
Cheers!!!!

Thats one area where those signs are located, but they do go through the whole length of the road going through wind river canyon. Given the zig zag
nature of that road and its limited width, your concentrating on driving through there than looking for small rectangular signs. I wouldnt take my
eyes off that road for nothing going through there..too dangerous even in the summertime. Lots of slow moving tractor trailer rigs and oilfield trucks
going through there and no where to pass. When you do pass a line of vehicles behind these slow moving trucks, your lucky if you make it before
another approaching slow truck comes the other way around the blind curve.
Cheers!!!!

Hello,
This is interesting and kinda spooky when someone mentioned Martial Law!!!
In the UK we have certain shapes of signs that depict certain things. For example, a triangle shape sign is for a "warning", circular will show the
speed limit of that stretch of road etc. Same for colour I believe.
I am guessing it is the same in the US?
So what does a rectangular or greeny sign normally mean?
In the UK those shapes are used for motorway exits. One has three diagonal lines to state 300 yards, then 2 for 200 and 1 for one hundred yards until
the exit.

Just got off the phone with a WYDOT worker in Shoshoni.
His explanation of the signs was they are markers for the paint crews, to indicate where to stripe the passing lanes etc.
Seems odd to me that they would put up permanent markers to indicate where to paint the lane striping...
Mystery solved? lol

So does this have anything to do witht he NAFTA superhyw coming through? Are these Canadian sign posts? I jumped on this am just to see if anyone has
found out what the signs are. I am ceratin there will be a logical explaination, could someone take a copy of the sign to a DMV? Or a road commission?
Enquiring minds want to know...

I think these new signs are to help accident reconstruction teams to more accurately locate the physical evidence of fatal accidents. I have also seen
these new signs but not in Wyoming. I have never been west of the Mississippi.
