Show me proof that they did anything wrong. I bet you cannot. I'll cut off my left testicle if I'm wrong. Would you like to know why? Because the US cannot find anything that they did wrong.

Would you like me to simplify that any further for you? You seem to be having trouble understanding....

Show me proof that they are innocent.

See how that works...asking people questions they can't possibly answer to try and prove your point?

Also, After 5 guys were released back to the UK, they were released without charge... A foreign concept to you I'm sure.

the story is about more torture...

this segment is at the end of the article

"Five other Britons who spent up to two years at Guantanamo Bay were handed over to British custody in March and then freed without charge."

Internment is imprisonment with charges or proof , and the mistreatment of civilians is banned under the 4th geneva convention.

a prisoner of war camp is the same but enemy combatants and is covered the the 3rd geneva convention.

so , what is GITMO

as the people there are labeled `enemy combatants` they have rights under the 3rd geneva convention.

you know things like regular visits by the red cross; even the Third Reich didn`t stop the red cross making visits , so why is the USA?

Honestly, the only hypocrisy here is your own, stemming from your brain-washed patriotic "my country right or wrong" attitude. I bet some neo-con government advisor is incredibly pleased with the job he's done with you.

The best thing you could do regarding this issue is, frankly, to shut up. Your country has ruined anything you could say regarding "staying out of America's business".

Wrong.

Bottom line. GITMO is full of people caught on the battlefield. Full of people trying to kill civilians as well. When someone is caught on the battlefield pointing a gun at you - they are not 'innocent' people.

YOU people wanted GITMO closed.
Now YOU people take the terrorists.
Either that or shut up, MYOB, and stop being hypocrites.

I wholeheartedly retract the 'I'm sad to say' part of the above post.

The point you seem to be missing is this. The only reason Bush is asking people to take some of these prisoners is because every other country in the world is demanding that we close the prison.

I don't think for one second that the US government does what the rest of the world wants, lol. Worldwide opinion means zilch to the US government. The in-coming adminastration purportedly does not wantthe human-rights-lacking place. Perhaps it is more to do with this, and, a reflection of US opinion (as this was an Obama election promise), as opposed to anything 'demanded' from the rest of the world.

Are you really suggesting the Bush adminastration is fazed by worldwide 'demands', lmao.

take care
wayne

if GITMO is full of enemy combatants caught ona a battle field then under the 3rd Geneva convention they are POW`s and should be treated like that - under due proccess of law.

but they are not.

Topic at hand:

As i said I'm happy to split the "prisoners" between other nations or just bring them here for a fair trial... something they would never get there.
I agree we shouldn't have to, but i really don't mind if it means this hell-hole is gone.

As one of the above posters said... i think this could be more to do with the new administration (obama).... or could just be bush just putting his usual spin on it.... who knows...

Personally I think Bush wants it cleared up before Obama gets in power because he thinks the whole thing will be exposed and his goose will be pretty much cooked.

Gitmo may close to housing "Illegal Enemy Combatants" however I doubt they are going to dismantle it. It after all is the perfect place to hold "dissidents" or those people who are too dangerous to keep in US prisons.

It's a valuable site for the US to house those they feel are against the "Order" they wish to place on the world. The problem? It's too highly publicised now. They need to remove the visible detainees in order to quell the international recognition of such an obvious detainment camp.

Of all of the reported FEMA camps I have heard of on this site. Gitmo would be the perfect location to start "housing" people when TSHTF.

This is PR. This is spin. This is one hand distracting you while the other does the nefarious deed. "Close Gitmo" just means emptying out of the people that the world knows of. It won't close, it will just be reconfigured after the media attention dies down.

Very very true.... and you have to think that if everybody knows about gitmo, and it is "infamous" now.... what are the other places we don't know about....?

I think that it will definitely still be used for "something"....
