Big Brother to control thermostats in homes?

When I was in the Army stationed in Japan for three years, the Army did indeed 'control the thermostats'. THEY turned the heat on and off. and you could only turn on the air conditioner when they told you that you could. And it got VERY VERY cold before they turned the heat on. And if you got caught with the air conditioner on before they said it was okay - you got pay taken away.

Any one who lives in California might want to invest in a bunch of regular thermostats. Putting one in line between the furnace/AC and the '
State Mandated ' one is going to be very prevelent if these morons pass this.
One of my internet providers had on their news feed on the homepage about how many people are moving from one state to another and California is one of the top states. Of course with all the movement from south of the border we'll be turning California over to Mexico soon!

Here's a couple of thoughts.

If you have a sick person and need to keep a certain tempature what happens if the move the tempature out of your control?

What happens if they turn it up above the level you can afford to pay?

If you keep the tempature below the recommended 68f say 66f already in the winter, if they set it too 68f
or
If you are away from home just maintaining the house tempeture above freezing to prevent a water burst and they set the value to a lot high than just two degrees for everyone.
or
If you buy a seperate home generator and create your own engery why should they control how you use that energy.

Are you responsible for the extra costs caused by their controlling the usage.

All this is about is controlling everyone enforcing profit. Nothing to do with fairness.

Well, in actuality, if the state is controlling the energy delivery to my home, they should pay for it. Why should I pay THEM to control a resource I PAY FOR?

You pick your battles.

A million ppl can fight solo battles or they can consolidate and
have a million ppl fighting together.

If you fall back to a safe area with lots of like minded ppl that
will support you and your beliefs you stand a lot better chance
than going it alone in the middle of a bunch subservient meat-bots.

Personally I am not fighting, I am bugging out for the middle
of nowhere and geting underground so thermal will not see me,
and if and when nuclear winter comes I won't have to burn half
a forest to stay warm and advertise my location with smoke.

You are taking my pointing out this is old news the wrong way. Let’s look at this with some critical thinking.

First we agree this is not breaking news, all the articles are a year old and all report the same thing nearly word for word. Making this not breaking news and nothing new added. If there is a thread as I pointed out early on why not contribute to it and give the OP there credit where credit is due.

Secondly in the article it said it would start next year. That was a year ago, as you can see it is not starting and it will not start either. Here is why it will not start. It is a state government program, California is bankrupt.
www.huffingtonpost.com...

www.reuters.com...

www.nytimes.com...

See where that is headed? California cannot even afford to pay anyone let alone jump onto something this big. And yes this is a big thing to undertake. Even the federal government failed in a way when it came to the “big change” for everything going digital.
www.msnbc.msn.com...

www.wtvm.com...

Of course they will eventually start the coupons back up (or so they say) but they failed over all. They ran out of money and cannot move forward right now.

So explain to me how you expect California to go forward with this technology that is state government pushed? If they cannot afford to place, buy, or even discount such devices how are they going to move forward with such things? Actually would it not be better for them to let people use whatever energy they want so they could add more tax to it? After all a failing government often adds taxed to increase its funds. But please explain to me how California is going to do this when it cannot pay for anything. They have no more money, and will be issuing IOUs.

It is not that I am wanting to stand in the way of any ATS member but I would like to see those who start threads to know the dates of the articles they are posting and to give credit to any thread that might have came before them (you know common courtesy). When a person sits and argues about their thread remaining open when another has been pointed out makes it seem as if the other ATS member is less important than themselves. But think what you want I am simply trying to point out some very real facts about the articles and threads. If it offends you or you are taking it personal I am sorry but it was not intended that way. There are likely other issues at hand though if that is the case.

Thank you for the time you put into the post, I appreciate it.
The least I can do is answer, if not clear up a couple of things.

(IMHO) Government(s) find the money when they want something bad enough - always have - always will.

It is not that I am wanting to stand in the way of any ATS member but I would like to see those who start threads to know the dates of the articles they are posting and to give credit to any thread that might have came before them (you know common courtesy).

I was sincerely thanking you for keeping an eagle eye on duplicate threads.
For one reason or another I have a horrid time with the *search* here on ATS - and I do look.
I’d much rather have brought the information that I believed was *new* to another thread, than start one, but, I thought what I’d found was importantly new and didn’t want it buried somewhere never to be seen again.

When a person sits and argues about their thread remaining open when another has been pointed out makes it seem as if the other ATS member is less important than themselves.

Thank you so much for saying *seems*.
I’m not interested in stars, or kudos or whatever here on ATS.
Nor do I live vicariously through the original journalists that post the article, nor does posting a thread make me feel *important*.
To me that’s just a bit *off*.
I didn’t do the research for the article, I didn’t make my bones for big time MSM organization, I didn‘t spend hours putting it together a final product...
What did I do?
I found an interesting article, wanted to pass it on to ATS and, here comes the big part - I hope you’re sitting down!
I used Cut - Paste! :O
Woopie.
That, does not, make me feel important.
So thank you for adding in the *seems* part.

Argue about the content, yes, I did.
Before it was so kindly pointed out to me (and you were most tactful) that my thread was outdated - I felt, (and still to some extent do) - that even if this was posted a year ago - and even if it hasn’t been implemented, it seems no one did a thing about it.
You state, and rightly so, California is broke.
But, and I reiterates, I don’t think it would stop *them* if they really wanted to enforce this practice.

Thanks again for your time.
