It's been about 5 years now...

I've been reading ATS for a total of about 5 years. I was just wondering, just when are they going to take away our liberties and institute all these things I've been reading about on here for the last half decade?

I've been reading it for 5 years. I've been reading that we're on the verge of:

1) a New World order
2) Alien Disclosure
3) Martial Law
4) Economic collapse
5) Nuclear War
6) Police State
7) End of second amendment
8) End of ... THE WORLD!!!!
9) Getting the "truth" about 9/11
10) Getting the "truth" about the moon landing
11) Finding bigfoot.

How long does the verge for these things last?

Oh, and just when did "Alternative News" turn into "Alternative News Topics with Skunk Works Replies? I remember a time when it was a tad more objective. When did the mods put down their whips and allow people to speculate out of their anus regarding actual news?

What I'm getting at is: come on people, isn't it getting OLD hearing "Oh, we're one step closer to martial law" or "They just want to take away our liberties" for every other post for every other topic in Alternative news? Saying crap like that is basically spamming up a section of the board that actually attracts REGULAR people to this site because it's a great collection of news stories and discussions - but when people start hearing the same garbage OVER and OVER and OVER and OVER again in these threads, one begins to recognize a pattern which leads people to think that all of ATS is on "repetitive idiot mode"!

Is it just me or are there certain members who just beat a dead horse? I can think of at least three people who most more than they should in the News section, and I already know what their reply to the story is going to be: "We're doomed! It's fear mongering! The government is a terrorist!"

Okay, I get it! You have a problem with authority and a skewed view of what freedom is! You think you should be able to speed whenever you want, steal whatever you want, own a tank and get a loan for a battleship! Whatever... stop trying to impose your values on everyone else! You're worse than a biblethumber going door to door!

Instead of telling me I'm going to Hell, you tell me I'm going to a prison camp!

Instead of "Accepting Jesus" I'm supposed to "Accept the truth and wake-up"

WHAT THE FU?!?!?!

Talk about a mental cult... Why does ATS allow these people to push their pseudo-new age religions of "truth" and being "saved"?

Anyone else see the other striking parallels between the so called "Theorists" and everyday religion?

Why doesn't ATS create a "Conspiratist Religion" (not the other one) for them to push their twisted ideas upon the masses?

Even worse, the same people who push their crap on others will turn around and say how false all the other religions are.

Shrug...

Let's see, what are the choices..

Agreed. People need to tone it down a bit. Granted there is some crazyness out there. But not everything is so extreme and dramatic.

It seems that the majority of Breaking News Articles are linked from the MSM.

How are you making up your own mind any differently than just reading the article from the MSM sight?

Is it because of the comments? If so, then they are subtly altering your mind and you are not making up your own, but taking part in a hivemind as it were.

Haha nice thread I noticed that, I used to just read the Alien thread. But I started looking around the others out of curiosity and I saw the pattern. It seems people find things more interesting if they are in suspense.

Many times you'll see members chime off on their take of the OP. Others will then dig up links and offer information they find (or wish to present) backing their view. Ultimately you end up with more than one side of the story all in one place. Sure most of it's from various MSM outlets, universities, study groups, government agencies, goofballs on utube, or anyone that wants to offer up their crack-pot hypothesis.

I take reality seriously, and always try to use whatever I know in order to form an opinion. Clearly I understand than nobody can "alter my mind" without my permission. What you choose to do with 90% of the crap posted here is totally up to you. I, myself have a pretty good idea where that line is drawn. But hey, that's just me, it might not work like that for everyone.

The problem I and I am sure many others have is that when you pull away the blinkers from your eyes and actually start looking deep into all of this, the more depressing it becomes and the more powerless and confused you feel.

Because of this people in the same predicament make threads about woe misery and doom. When you have 8000+ members in a room that feel the same way your going to create this kind of atmosphere.

The only way to change this is to turn it on its head and create a positive out of a negative, not always easy.

It's called " Freedom Of Speech " people. This is a discussion board is it not? You have to dig your way through the trash to find the diamond in the ruff. Members in here have an imagination and sometimes go overboard with their discussion, but that's when members need to deny ignorance not whine about it. It's a challenge I know but denying ignorants is a must and should be done more often in this forum. I too find myself discouraged about some of the threads and news that comes in here but it is a discussion board and members have their opinions and beliefs that have to be challenged by others and debated. Religion is a hard one because of faith and faith needs no proof so I tend to stay away from those who tell me I'm going to hell etc.. I feel your pain OP but it's just the way it is in here and you just have to keep digging through it all.

OP, you seem like a hell of an intelligent person, albeit fed up. I don't begrudge you feeling this way one bit but why not just avoid the areas that bother you? If your case is that the whole board bothers you, why be here? This isn't an insult either. What I am saying is, if you are in a place that makes you miserable over and over, why stay in that place?

From the sounds of your post I imagine you have some excellent comments to make. I do as well. I make some that are well received and loved and I most certainly have some that will be loathed and are probably worth exactly zero. Either way I stick around. I am exhausted hearing that God is the only way or that I am going to hell because I am a Pagan and blah blah blah.

I guess what I am saying is evaluate what you want and avoid the rest...difficult as that may be
