Alien Contact, Disclosure video

I’ve done a search and have not found this video or any threads regarding it and its possible scenario.

It's a very interesting fictitious documentary style video regarding just how SETI could be blocked from full disclosure when and if contact is ever made.

It explains the real world science behind the search for extra terrestrial intelligence, also covers topics regarding AIs and global reactions, which is a good topic to cover when we are dealing with this possible future situation.


What I really find plausible is how things that are presently being handled since the events of 9/11 and with all the new Home land security laws that have been passed. This shows how the Government may try to hide that information from us also at the end is small commentary from real world scientist on their thoughts of how things may come about with real first contact.

It's an interesting look at how things may play out.

Would ET craft or thier planets use radio waves? If a race is advanced I doubt they would use such a slow communication and with all its variables.

But who knows?

Awesome mate! ... watching it now ... Acting is a little cheesy, but the ideas a very entertaining ... I like the narration with the British accent ... makes it seem so authentic ...

Thank you for the vid. For a moment there I thought that it really happened and I must have been under a rock somewhere. Nevertheless, I find it most interesting and it will get me thinking a lot. Hopefully something will happen and hopefully for the better of mankind. In other words I hope that we get to see them in this lifetime. I don't believe that the people of this world will panic as the governments think we will. Sure, there will be some but most will not panic but welcome them.

The video is like a documentary version of the movie "Contact" without Jodie Foster, and much shorter. Thank you for sharing it with us ATSers.

My exact thought as well. Dr Seth Shostak alway's say's, aliens likely wouldn't look like us, so I always think (in Trek terms) if they don't look like us, why would they communicate like us? Do/would they have "subspace" type communications, that we don't have the technology to pick up yet? Could/would their communications be "cloaked" in some way?

Great point unless they realize our level of technology first then in that case this is how they would contact us knowing that in their terms we are using infantile level technology.

No doubt there are other races in our galaxy which are on the same tech level as us and that we may pick up on thier signals one day, if we have not all ready??

It would be like looking for a needle in a hay stack to pick up and pin point a signal mixed in with all the background noise from space.

I think Seti are using the wrong equipment and as I mentioned before an advanced race would not be using radio frequences which is my belief.

I too have always thought about SETI and their methods. Considering, now feel free to correct me if I'm wrong / off the mark, radio transmissions are composed of discreet sine and cosine waves conducted via the moisture in our environment i.e. these electronic signals (radio waves) are sent as voltages through some conductive material (water in our environment).

Now, who is to say that ETs would rely on such a method of communication considering space is a vacuum, can anything such as this transmission exist? There is no conductive material, that we're aware of, in space, as moisture cannot exist in its contiguous form - apparently.

My concern is, are we misinformed about the true nature of space, should something like this be possible? Are SETI trying to find fire in water, relying on primitive methods to detect advanced, and possibly incompatible, information.

Since you posted this Slayer it has got my brain hurting

Light waves are even to slow in the vast distances in space, say you wanted to contact across galaxies? this would not even be feesable as you would have to wait years for a reply.

May be they bend time and space to send a signal as well as to travel by who knows

No I dont think we would get a message saying Hi!
It would more or less be along the lines of us picking up some signals that were spewed out from some Alien world like we have been spewing Radio and TV signals for the past hundred year not a direct signal but us finding signals from their daily lives check out the link I posted in the above reply

Correct! and thats why I mentioned the possibility of picking up signals from a race which are on the same tech level as us or close to.

Interesting! I'm certainly thinking in the same realms of yourself.

In addition - the video suggests that a key was needed to decipher the message. This is very human thinking, we have been using ciphers and keys in electronic data encryption for years now, the most basic of these is probably Secure Socket Layer (SSL) for web transmissions, denoted by the HTTPS in the address bar.

I understand the video was fictional but with reference to Roswell I think I remember reading somewhere that this actually happened i.e. a message was, sort of, encrypted and needed a key to decipher. If true, questions such as:

- Who / what is the third party not "authorised" to see this message?
- Why do we have technology and security in common with "them"?

Physicist Michio Kaku has said if we receive a signal the public will never know and agrees that the info should not be released.

He also says Carl Sagan was dumb to send out the Earths location because aliens are likely to be more advanced and would have evolved from predators because predators are smarter then prey so there is a chance they could not be friendly.
