I really enjoyed reading your post. Obama is an odd one, all right. And I really like that about him.

But I am fairly odd, myself and I am drawn to
people who are hard to label or put in a box, and therefore make me think.
I married a man who is a software engineer with long hair. He's a redneck, a hippie and a nerd who rides a dirt bike. A lifetime member of the NRA,
he's a gentle, peaceful man who gardens and has a GREAT deal of respect for women. Older women LOVE him almost immediately, but younger people are
somewhat intimidated by his personal power that he exudes without trying or even knowing. He's as comfortable giving a class to executives as he is
talking to the old geezers down at the local feed store. And both audiences admire him for his authenticity.
My point is, some of the most interesting and attractive people (to me) are those who aren't just a reproduction of what I've seen a thousand times
before. And that fits Obama for sure.
