Terrorists could use 'insect-based' biological weapon
www.telegraph.co.uk
Terrorists would find it "relatively easy" to launch a devastating attack using swarms of insects to spread a deadly disease, an academic has
warned.
Governments, he advised, needed to have robust "pest management infrastructure that's able to absorb and respond to an introduction" of infected
insects, he said. (visit the link for the full news article)

Yeah, and "terrorists" could use box cutters to fly planes into buildings, too.
"terrorists" could do this, "terrorists" could do that.
Create the cause, create the fear, secure the funding. See, SOMEONE's got to do all that expensive research now to guard against this new "threat".
So how do "terrorists" do this without infecting themselves? And how do "swarms" come from a suitcase?
Selling fear: Seems to be all the rage these days.

It makes sense... load up the mosquitos and they have the ability to infect and disperse far beyond what could explode out of a suitcase. I guess they
would do this in biohazard laps and contain them in sealed containers until they reach the destination. I would assume the terrorists would also
sacrifice themselves to infect others so they would release the mosquitos themselves. Or whatever other bug it could be. Ebola would be pretty bad. Or
plague in fleas. Smallpox may be able to travel in an insect, I don't know.

Don't you love how the media continually gives terrorist a how to manual of possible ways they could hurt society?
Guess somebody forgot to tell the media, you are either with us or against us.

Yeah, you got it right. Create the cause and take care of it yourself before it happens uncontrolled.
Who do you really think news like this is scaring? If anything, all these announcements do is remind us that terrorism exists and is still a
possibility. You can't put it behind Americans to be completely oblivious to something an hour after it happened.
So how do "terrorists" do this without infecting themselves? And how do "swarms" come from a suitcase?
Seriously? You could probably fit upwards of a million mosquitoes in a suitcase for starters.
Again, who is this scaring? You must be a scared little bugger, eh?

I'm sure the "terrorists" or whoever have thought of this. If not.. well... oops.
Insects have caused damage throughout history, they must have been considered as a weapon at some point even for something as simple as damaging
crops, since many insects do that naturally.

Haha, I thought the same thing; however, once the cat is out of the bag then it has to be taken care of. The possibility is hidden no longer so now
it's a race to secure it from happening or to let it happen. In other words, now that the potential weapon is known, it's time to mount a preemptive
defense...
... which I'm sure will foster cries of "restricted freedom" as citizens are no longer allowed to carry around suitcases of mosquitoes or buy
disease spreading insects in bulk!

Looks like people played around with insects in the past.
Like the German scientists, human subjects were used to study these diseases. As early as 1932, people were taken from prison camps (mainly
Chinese soldiers, intellectuals, and local workers). The study subjects were called Marutas, which means logs of wood. This is how they were treated.
Unspeakable horrors awaited those that entered the Ro block. No subjects that entered ever left alive.
The subjects were tied to posts and were forced to be bitten by plague-infested fleas. The progression of the disease was then charted very
scientifically until the subjects died. If the subject did not die, he or she was usually killed, and the body dissected. Many of the human subjects
were vivisected at the Ro block. A room existed there where body parts were kept and catalogued.

As soon as I read this article I was sure I had read in the past about Japan using bombs filled with fleas and other insects which had been infected
with disease during their brutal camping against China. It is estimated they killed about as many Chinese with this effort as the number of Japanese
killed in both atomic attacks.
Entomological Warfare is not new.

Standing water gets you your basically infinite supply of mosquito larvae. An infected animal gets you your disease (malaria or any other disease
mosquitoes carry).
Of course, if the government starts sending out more mosquito spray trucks to protect the population after getting some intel... that's when the
ATS-type would start complaining that the government is "fear mongering" and that the ban to transport mass amounts of insects in and out of the
country is unconstitutional or that the required vaccinations for overseas travel (and the suggested ones back home) are a government conspiracy to
control the population, make everyone autistic, make bigPharm rich, and blah blah blah.

Why the heck would terrorists bother with all the trouble of doing an attack like that. It would just be easier for them to build a bomb at home and
step onto a crowded train or bus as they have done before.

Mikey- this type of transmission for biological warfare would cause many times the amount of deaths from a single bomb on a train or even a number of
bombs, unless they are atom/hydrogen/radiation bombs. Mosquitos can infect and move on to infect many other people before they die. That is why yellow
fever and malaria are so widespread. Yes mosquito nets would help but if they dose the guys up and have enough of them, it doesn't even matter. It
would have to be something resistant or different but even if there was a vaccine for it, by the time we realized what was going on, it would be too
late with too little supply.

You forgot:
Terrorists could build a time machine and make out with our grandmothers, and eventually replace and become our grandfathers.
Terrorists could contact UFOs, go to their home planet, learn how to make UFOs and then write terroristy things in all the cornfields of the world.
Terrorists could apply for all the jobs in the US, and then become CEOs and then send all of the jobs overseas so we are all unemployed.
Terrorists could develop the cure to all diseases and then go on TV and show us they did, and then sell it to make Trillions, and then use the money
to buy all of the world's shoes so they have something to throw at press conferences
In all seriousness, this "what if terrorists do _______ to hurt us" mentality will lead the nation into paranoia. I remember when a congressman (I
forget his name) was so paranoid about Middle Easterners that he had actually wanted start an investigation to see if terrorists from the Middle East
developed the virus - West Nile virus, a virus that's 1000 years old.
Maybe he bought into my "terrorists will build a time machine" argument and thought they traveled 1000 years in the past to make the virus.

I'm worried about the details of this "robust pest management infrastructure" and how they're going to affect my civil liberties.
And all this talk about what terrorists of capable of is baloney. If they could have they would have. And when you talk about terrorists you have to
be really specific since there is two different kinds. The first kind are the ones who work for the secret services of the world and stage false flag
operations.
The second kind are the little bandwagon jumpers who can barely even grow a beard yet, fuelled by ideology and youthful ignorance, and try and get
together with some like minded friends and carry out a juvenile terror attack. These sort usually chicken out or have an attack of conscience, or are
intercepted first by the police. That is why we do not have daily terror attacks going off all over the place, like our governments would like us to
believe are possible.
The idea of the mega rich terror networks, rich enough to employ biochemists and experts capable of building nuclear bombs, (and now killer bee
trainers) should remain in the realm of bad plots for books, movies and videogames.

I'm so worried now!
We all know that the generic 'terrorists' have easy access to advanced biological labs and can easily produce this type of threat.
Give me a break.
1) People need to stop being so afraid of death.
2) People need to realize that the word 'terrorist' in itself is being used as a form of government sponsored terror, to brainwash and control those
willing to believe.
3) Live your lives everyone. Enjoy the present moment, live each day with love for those around you. That way when the terrorist flea swarm attacks,
and have no doubt, they WILL cause the 'academic' said so, you can be happy that you lived a joyous life.

OMG! They might also have supernatural powers, fly around the earth really fast and cause us to all fly off it!
... or maybe they have the ability to summon powerful storms and flood countries!
... or they might be able to open holes in the ozone and cook cities!
Fear the ground, the sky, the sun, the insects, the animals, your neighbors! Fear anything that doesn't look like you, and especially the ones that
do!
And above all... trust and obey your government! They will protect you from the imaginary possibilities they scare you with!
lol.
And they call OUR MEMBERS conspiracy theorists.
These government think tanks put our doomsday imaginations to shame.
The only terrorist threat you or anyone have to fear is the one your government chooses to allow to happen.
Ignore them, or better yet, laugh at them.
And if your government dares to open the gates to an attack... toss your government out on it's backside, it's clearly time for a replacement.
Remember, they serve you. If they can't, find someone who can!
That, or you could walk around slapping yourself and waving your arms around in the air in a paranoid attempt to wave off every insect around you.
... if you like white padded rooms.

I think that's a bit too sophisticated for your average cave dwelling terrorist and they're the ones we're concerned with.
Nope, if we had real terrorists in the U.S. that were bent on creating destruction, they wouldn't need knives, guns, bombs, airplanes or any fancy
bio-weapons all they would need to do is get themselves here and then go buy a pack of matches.
I remember a few years back when I was living in Seattle there was some guy that was burning all kinds of stuff from shed's & garages to houses. It
took them several years to catch the guy and he must of been responsible for over 30 fires.
Of course we've had ECO - Terrorists burn University Buildings where they do experiments & farms where animals are raised for food or fur and a few
car lots with Hummers and the like.
Terrorists, nope we don't have many terrorist - except the terrorist using the Patriot act to terrorize our liberties.

In another breaking discovery: Fire hurts you if you touch it!
Everyone and their mother knows that mosquitoes can carry malaria, and everyone was scared to death for 3 years in my area about the dreaded "West
Nile Virus".
What purpose does this article serve? Next I'll be reading "65 million dollar study shows that terrorists could possibly use bombs as a weapon"
