My mistake, i apologize.

Say someone wanted to start a thread on tantra and felt it appropriate to post nude photos, that in fact were of people performing a tantric act...the argument could be made that this is being posted purely for information and to help get the point accross.

You could probably do this tastefully and just show a "behind" shot/sketch, rather than side on,not revealing any genitalia.
But I'm just being picky....

thanks Mods for coming out in numbers to help me understand, i appreciate the replies.

'A picture speaks a thousand words'
Quote from early Emperor of the Xia Dynasty in China about 4,000 years ago.

"see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil"
from a 17th century pictorial maxim in Japan

# Early associations of the three monkeys with the fearsome six-armed deity Vajrakilaya link the proverb to the teaching of Buddhism that if we do not hear, see or talk evil, we ourselves shall be spared all evil. This may be considered similar to the English proverb "Speak of the Devil - and the devil appears."
# Others believe the message is that a person who is not exposed to evil (through sight or sound) will not reflect that evil in their own speech and actions.
# Today "See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" is commonly used to describe someone who doesn't want to be involved in a situation, or someone willfully turning a blind eye to the immorality of an act in which they are involved
source

Not trying to be a pain in the you know what and last ill say on the matter(dont want to get the ban hammer). Plus i do understand where your coming from and the last thing i want to see on this site is it turn into some other sites (that i wont mention). But i hope that this isnt a blanket ban and in certain situations with a mods approval first this could be reviewed.Lets say if the tortured Iraqi prisoners photos were leaked here thus stopping a crime and giving the site world attention. Or if irrefutable UFO/alien footage was available but also contained graphic images, would these still not be allowed?

I call dibs on the hot blonde in the middle!

To everyone else whom still has concerns over the policy:

It seems if you have a graphic picture that you feel belongs in your post you simply have to link to it with a *warning graphic picture of X* instead of hosting it and putting the pic in your post where anyone reading the thread will see it all unawares. Or, if you're still unsure, just send it to the mods via the complaints/suggestions button in your membercenter (I believe that's where it is) and ask for permission*.

*note: if memory serves you need to include your screenname if you want a reply, as I believe all complaints/suggestions are submitted to the mods-only forum anonymously.

Salutations,

While I understand and fully agree with this policy I wonder why you, meaning ATS, doe not have to conform to this. I speak in reference to the advertisement that is currently flashing on the majority of the threads I bring up for the mirrorsmovie . This advertisement is extremely graphic and not at all what I would classify as family orientated. Should ATS not think about having this removed? Your income surely can't outweigh your values and your policy.

I eagerly await your response.

Hmm, lovin'? I might have to question your taste. (I hear they taste like chicken).

Just make sure if it happens you squint and look out of the corner of your eye to makes sure they aren't using a 'glamour' on you. (
)

Revealed below, the 'real' Heidi?

But to stay on topic - if you find what you think is a logical justification run it by the Mods and we'll try to vet it.

To the poster above, on the Mirrors Movie - I watched the Trailer and saw no graphic image.

Mirrors with Kiefer Sutherland

If it's a movie (with fake horror or blood and the trailer's on prime-time TV, how bad could it be?) then you have to hit the 'start' button, right? Thus, it's not ATS' fault, I'd think.

However, post your objection to 'SkepticOverlord's Ad Hitlist' and he will review it.

Oh come on man, that guy missing his arm was obviously cgi. And so were all the mangled bodies and body parts lying around in the ketchup.

You can't show real life horror images, but you can show horror images that look like real life in say horror movies right?

I hate violence and agree that pictures should not be posted,

but what about that horrible ad, of the movie mirrors, every time I sign on I have to watch this guy slit his throat.

I know, I know it is just a movie.

Now I'm wondering how Jam's kids would react to the Mirror movie advertisement that is on the right of the screen. I know I mentioned it but all I got was a reply from the OP via U2U saying I should report that link here. Why did they remind us? Why is it that alot of the posts have comments about the "throat"? Could it be unconsious manipulation? Looks like the "pot and kettle" thing is going on. ATS seems to be doing a lot more of this type of thing lately.

Guess we'll see what happens. I can't ALERT the mods with the orig OP. I think this needs to be addressed now if you want this to be taken seriously ATS.

Can I post a picture I took of the Ad? It shows the guys throat being slit... should be OK to post if you can run the ad right?

This is not your "Worst Ads Ever! thread idea by SO.... this is beyond and it should not have to be dealt with in that manner.

How can we do more that that?

Be fair.

For what it's worth Skeptic may just be busy at the moment. Also, again for what it's worth, every offending ad that has been brought to his attention has been removed, afaik. The offending ads are usually just too noisy and/or have seizure inducing flashing. Many pages ago, in the 'SO's Worst Ads Hitlist,' people were complaining about a gory ad for a t.v. show's new DVD collection (Autopsy it may have been called?) and SO asked for a screenshot or a source link(?) so that he could find where it was coming from and eliminate it. As several mods already seem to be aware of it it most likely isn't necessary to post the info. So I'd advice patience... I'm sure he'll get this one too. (They don't just hand out those super-hero tights he likes to wear to any old schmuck....

Acknowledged that I did in fact receive an immediate response. And I also do acknowledge that you cannot decide as it is the HIGHER UPS who decide... but...

This movie AD has been mentioned before, its not the first time. and it appears that you had complaints about this with a the prior mirror movie...

Does ATS not see what the ad will be?? Maybe you should look before you accept a link.... Can we expect links to SEX and S&M soon too? Not too far fetched is it?? If this ad is playing on this thread that says....

You will not use images, avatars or link to domains that contain GORE, MUTILATION
, pornography or illegal(2e) content. Doing so will result in removal of your post(s) and IMMEDIATE termination of your account. Please refrain from posting images that may be upsetting to sensitive members - we are a family-friendly site after all.

There seems to be alot of staff on this thread... maybe one can have this looked at sooner than later....

Can you do more? You should have seen this coming ATS. And I'm sure you did and are getting what you expected. So, how is it written up... how does this scenario play out....

A very good point, and a valid one. We don't have direct control over which ad banners appear and what not. (SkepticOverlord has some degree of control - but it's not that he sits and decides which banner goes with which thread. There's some complicated software that decides. SO's control is more or less "after the fact" as I understand it.) And you have every right to say "Hey, this ad is against the T&C! What's up with that?"

Add your thoughts to the thread pointed out above, and your concerns will be addressed. If you don't get a direct response from SO, it doesn't mean that he didn't take note. You can also post a complaint from your MemCenter. Either way SO will see your concern. Remember a lot of people want his attention, and sadly he simply cannot give each and every person the personal attention of a U2U.

Most of us don't even notice which banner ads comes and goes, but I can assure you that SO knows and makes sure that there's a quality control. The ad may be gone in a day or two... Did it get bumped from the add-list by the next generation of ads, or did SO remove it? We'll never know.

Please point out where it has been mentioned before, because it's important for us to see where the communication gaps are.

No. SO will be able to explain how the ads system works. I don't know all the technical intricacies, so an answer from me may only be half-right. The bottom line is, there are certain ad companies we accept ads from. There may be thousands (hundreds of thousands) of different banners/ads, and it would be ridiculous to go through all of them. We use the particular ad companies (or whatever they're called) because their ads don't conflict with our T&C. If an ad pops up that conflicts with our T&C, they are likely to be kicked from our "accepted" list.

SkepticOverlord, and only SO has control over the ads. There is nothing any of the other staff can do - other than let SO know about the problem.

That's a very accusatory tone? Tell me is the ad really your issue, or is there an underlying issue?

OK so nobody except SO can pull an AD off the website temp until he gets to work? So if someone posts some SNUFF material on a post and its reported is this the type of response we should expect? You have people being affected here... look at the comments and decide whether they are influenced by this GORY ad...

I agree that war is atrocious...but shoving it down peoples throats isn't a valid answer...in my opinion.

My point is that there is no point cramming the images down the throats of people who will do nothing.

and more obvious

Can you not see that the AD is having an effect on people? Sound the alarm and wake up the captain. Surely someone within your current management can make an ethical sound business decision.

Anyone?
