Mods: Feel free to move if this is misplaced.

After looking for ways to improve my mind and body I have stumbled across lots of information on the Pineal Gland. By no means is this a complete pineal reference, merely a summary of the research I have collected. More of an introduction to the pineal gland.

I'm no expert and am always wanting to know more.

Pineal Gland.

The pineal gland is located between the left and right brain hemispheres near the base of the brain and is around the size of a pea. Some liken its shape to that of a small pine cone.

Studies have shown that the pineal gland is actually an endocrine organ and is responsible for the production of melatonin, a chemical which helps control the circadian cycle. Sleep is part of the circadian cycle and research has shown that when light fades on the outside the pineal gland secretes melatonin.

Circadian rhythm - Any body rhythm that recurs in 24-hour cycles. The sleep-wake cycle is an example of a circadian rhythm.

medical-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com...

Signals from the SCN (suprachiasmatic nucleus 'body clock') travel to several brain regions, including the pineal gland, which responds to light-induced signals by switching off production of the hormone melatonin. The body’s level of melatonin normally increases after darkness falls, making people feel drowsy.

healthlink.mcw.edu...

Within the pineal gland, serotonin is acetylated and then methylated to yield melatonin.

arbl.cvmbs.colostate.edu...

Cure for disease?

As well as occurring naturally in our bodies people also take melatonin for a number of reasons. It is used to help with sleeping disorders and also jet lag, its relation to the circadian rhythm helps us understand why melatonin can be effective with these ailments.

www.internethealthlibrary.com...
neurology.health-cares.net...

More interesting observations of melatonin are those linking it to being a possible effective treatment for both cancer and alzheimer's. Some breast cancer and prostrate cancer patients show lower than average levels of melatonin. Low levels of melatonin also exist in alzheimer's patients. This would suggest increasing a patient's melatonin levels may offset the symptoms.

Scientists at Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans grew human breast cancer cells in the laboratory and then added melatonin to some of the cultures. They found that eastrogen-receptor-positive cells treated with melatonin grew one-fourth to one-half as fast as untreated cells did. The fewer estrogen receptors a batch of cancer cells had, the more melatonin it took to retard their growth. oestrogenThe hormone had no effect on cancer cells that lacked oestrogen receptors, said anatomist Steven Hill, an assistant professor at Tulane, who conducted these experiments.

"Melatonin may be a naturally occurring anticancer compound," said Dr. Hill. "The more a breast cancer is oestrogen receptor positive, the more dramatic the response may be." Melatonin appears to work in a very novel way, by somehow decreasing the number of oestrogen receptors the cells have, which in turn cuts the amount of tumour-promoting oestrogen that enters them.

Another investigation from an unquantifiable source:

In two cases of sarcoidosis, which were not responding to long term treatments, melatonin was used. In between four to five months of being treated with 20mg daily, the symptoms were alleviated (peggy.mt.unifi.it...)(Link broken?).

The Third Eye.

The pineal gland is also sometimes thought of as the third eye, an organ to perceive and be perceived (transmit and receive) on a psychic or higher level of consciousness. Methods of meditation focus on 'opening' the gland (www.krsnahealing.com...) and it is said that a person who can do this often feels elated and 'at one with the world' post meditation. Some say this is a result of awakening the gland and creating a connection with the greater collective consciousness.

Still centered in your pineal and loving yourself, call the collective consciousness of the planet into your pineal as quickly as possible. What you should feel next is a quiet oneness, with no separation from anything. Let go and move into the experience. Practice this a few times before moving on to the next step.

www.kenpage.com...

It could be said that the trance-like state of meditation is due to the production of melatonin by the pineal, resulting in a sleep-like state.

Others suggest this feeling is merely just a separate chemical reaction akin to that experienced when taking MDMA (which increases serotonin production) or '___'. They suggest that the production of these chemicals (serotonin and '___'), which are already made in small doses in the body, is increased through meditation and other activities such as sport.

"Dimethyltryptamine ('___'), also known as N,N-dimethyltryptamine, is a naturally-occurring tryptamine and potent psychedelic drug, found not only in many plants, but also in trace amounts in the human body where its natural function is undetermined. Structurally, it is analogous to the neurotransmitter serotonin and other psychedelic tryptamines such as 5-MeO-'___' and 4-HO-'___'. '___' is created in small amounts by the human body during normal metabolism[1] by the enzyme tryptamine-N-methyltransferase."

Barker SA, Monti JA and Christian ST (1981). N,N-Dimethyltryptamine: An endogenous hallucinogen. In International Review of Neurobiology, vol 22, pp. 83-110; Academic Press, Inc.

It is interesting to note that as a foetus and during birth the Pineal Gland produces small amounts of '___'.

Rick Strassman has done a lot of research and theorising on relations between the Pineal and '___'.

Information on drugs and their relation to spirituality is all over the internet.

But why else are people inclined to compare the gland to an eye?

It seems that the pineal gland is actually structured similarly to the human eye.

Along the retina of the eye are photoreceptors called rods and cones, given these names simply because of their shape. The cones are concentrated in the middle on the retina and are less sensitive to light than rods. Rods are the photoreceptors which are the mainstay of peripheral vision and are not receptive to colour.
In his presentation "The 2012 Enigma" David Wilcock suggests that these rod and cone photoreceptors are present in the pineal gland (36mins 40sec).
video.google.co.uk...

Other research has supported Wilcock's claims, however scientific research of evidence specificaly in humans is sparse.

"A cone-like photoreceptor has been described in the partial eye of lampreys... in the pineal organ of teleosts, in the pineal... of anurans and in... the pineal organ of lizards."

www.springerlink.com...

"Since in the retina oil droplets and a negative immunoreaction against bovine opsin are characteristic of cones, we suggest that in the pineal organ they also mark ldquoconetyperdquo photoreceptors scattered among ldquorod-typerdquo photo-receptors, the latter displaying a positive immunoreaction with the antisera used."

www.springerlink.com...

"Pinealocytes in many non-mammalian vertebrates have a strong resemblance to the photoreceptor cells of the eye. Some evolutionary biologists believe that the vertebrate pineal cells share a common evolutionary ancestor with retinal cells."

en.wikipedia.org...

As previously mentioned the pineal gland reacts to light, this would suggest that the gland can somehow sense changes in the outside world without having 'direct' contact.

Another theory proposes that because the structure of the retina and pineal gland are similar, perhaps the pineal consist of a variety of genes that are only expressed in the eye; therefore, the pineal gland has photoreceptors and a complete system for optical transduction. In other words, there IS some light-communication highway to the pineal gland. But what is it??
Ah-ha! Perhaps there is a secret, "unknown" (invisible?) passageway that allows the mammalian pineal to detect light directly!
Imagine that!

www.dhyansanjivani.org...

This idea of an 'unkown'/'innvisible' sensory passage has spiritual/psychic implications. However before we get carried away with this 'proof' of our psychic abilities we must look deeper and see if there is a 'visible' passage which allows the gland to directly react to the outside world. Research has shown such a path:

"Light exposure to the retina is first relayed to the suprachiasmatic nucleus of the hypothalamus, an area of the brain well known to coordinate biological clock signals. Fibres from the hypothalamus descend to the spinal cord and ultimately project to the superior cervical ganglia, from which post-ganglionic neurons ascend back to the pineal gland. Thus, the pineal is similar to the adrenal medulla in the sense that it transduces signals from the sympathetic nervous system into a hormonal signal."

arbl.cvmbs.colostate.edu...

It seems fairly obvious that a direct path to the pineal gland is existent, anything we perceive through our senses can in theory be 'transmitted' to any other part of our body.

Ancient knowledge of the Pineal Gland.

Even before the introduction of modern methods of scientific observation humans have regarded the pineal gland as something of a source of mysticism. References are found in ancient Greek and ancient Egyptian history.

Ancient Greeks believed the pineal gland (epiphysis) to be our connection to the Realms of Thought. Iamblichus repeats the statement of Plato(428/427 BC – 348/347 BC) that the study of the science of numbers tends to awaken that organ in the brain which the ancients described as the "eye of wisdom", the organ now known to physiology as the pineal gland.

www.mlahanas.de...

Descartes, a French philosopher born 1650 who resided in the Dutch Republic, was heavily influenced by the ancient writings of Plato, Socrates and Aristotle (as are all philosophers through to modern day). He talked of the pineal gland as a "Seat of the Soul". He believed it to be "full of animal spirits, brought to it by many small arteries which surround it." (plato.stanford.edu...).
The Pineal Gland could also be the answer to Descartes Mind Body problem which poses the question - how can the immaterial mind possibly interact with the material body when the two are intrinsicly different?
(en.wikipedia.org...)

The ancient Egyptians had a very interesting relationship with the pineal gland/third eye. Taken from the Egyptian God Horus, the eye of Horus features throughout Egyptian history and is said to represent the third eye connoting light, power, strength and healing. As well as being worn as pendants by they Egyptians they were also wrapped up with mummies.

Again, details of Horus are all over the internet but here is a concise summary from an unusual source:

www.tattoosymbol.com...

It is said that the Eye of Horus appears on both US Seals.

Here is a theory that suggests the eye of Horus represents our senses, all 6(!) of them.
www.aloha.net...
How reliable or well researched this theory is I am not sure. It says each part of the hieroglyph is mathematically related to each sense, shown by the relative size of each part.

One of the most popular and intriguing suggestions is that which suggests the Great Pyramid is a huge display of the location of the pineal gland (whether or not the ancient Egyptians built the Great Pyramid is another subject entirely).

It is suggested that the Pineal Gland is located in the geometric centre of our brains, scientific research to back this up is hard to find however there are numerous websites which state this, how reliable/valid they are is questionable.
www.mindpowernews.com...
www.crystalinks.com...

Interestingly the Great Pyramid is located in the exact centre of the Earth's physical land mass, roughly splitting the land mass into quarters.

The Great Pyramid (the Pyramid of Khufu, or Cheops in Greek) at Gizeh, Egypt, demonstrates the remarkable character of its placement on the face of the Earth.

The Pyramid lies in the centre of gravity of the continents. It also lies in the exact centre of all the land area of the world, dividing the earth's land mass into approximately equal quarters.

The north-south axis (31 degrees east of Greenwich) is the longest land meridian, and the east-west axis (30 degrees north) is the longest land parallel on the globe. There is obviously only one place that these longest land-lines of the terrestrial earth can cross, and it is at the Great Pyramid! This is incredible, one of the scores of features of this mighty structure which begs for a better explanation.

www.world-mysteries.com...

If the theories are correct and the Great Pyramid is an indicator to the Pineal Gland then this would have many implications as to why the ancients would leave this 'message' and secondly how did they have the technology to accurately measure both the brain and the Earth?

The Temple of Luxor, Egypt (founded 1400 BC. added to over generations of Pharaohs-wiki) is said to have been built to resemble the charkra system, of which the pineal gland is the 6th stage, suggesting more evidence that the ancient Egyptians had knowledge of the pineal gland.

NWO/Illuminati suppressing the Pineal Gland?

Modern conspiracy theorists suggest that the pineal gland is the key to enlightenment and our government (or the NWO or Illuminati) are suppressing its actions by calcifying it with chemical filled food and fluoride in our water. Their 'hidden' knowledge of the pineal gland is shown by displaying the Eye of Horus/All Seeing Eye as their various trademarks.
The effect of calcification is said to result in a dumbing down of society. The fact that Hitler used fluoride to calm his prisoners down lends some weight to the conspiracy theory.

"This fluoride water is a chemical soft-working tranquillizer. Hitler put fluoride in the water to keep his prisoners quiet, and the same thing happens in other parts of the world."

DR. JAN DE VRIES, Dr. H.Med., Ph.D., D.Ac., D.O., N.D.
www.consumerhealth.org...

www.preferrednetwork.com...

Experiments have shown that the degree of calcification does have an effect on the production of melatonin in the Pineal Gland:
linkinghub.elsevier.com...

It is for this reason many people are seeking to cut out fluoride and modified foods from their diet. The cold food diet is proving popular as leaving food in a raw state keeps all vitamins and helpful enzymes intact.

Older writings also refer to a calcified pineal gland as the mark of the beast.

I've come to the conclusion that whether this little gland holds the key to life or not it's still a good idea to keep it in good condition.

The big reason why people associate the gland with the eye, is the gland everynight, of every persons life, excretes a chemical called '___'. Which is the most illegal substance known to man. This chemical is actually the reason why you dream, its a drug trip every night really.

Being a person who has dabbled in all hallucinogens (mostly) i did come accross some '___' that had been extracted from a Mamosa treet. And i can honestly tell you, my third eye was open after that, and has been since.

In any case it is a very interesting organ, does alot of neat things.

'___' sounds hardcore but well worth it.

Hardcore is an understatement. I have never had an out of body experience like that before, i spoke with higher beings, i was gone for what seemed like years in my mind. My body had no idea what was going on, it enventually just fell asleep. The whole experience lasted about 30 mins in our time, but much much much much longer in the higher plane or wherever it was that i had been transported to.

This research is great. I guess the water fluoridation is worse than we thought. If calcification of the pineal gland leads to less production of melatonin, which reduces the rate of cell division in cancerous cells, then it goes to reason that water fluoridation just might be a major part of the increase of cancer in recent years.

The fluridification of the water does have a bad affect on it and is thought in many circles to be deliberate by the ptb to stop us from seeing if you know what i mean. It is apparently reversable - without using psychedelics ( although thats the best way to stimulate it ). I will check up on it & post info links when i find it for those that are interested.

Here is a place that researches decalcification techniques:
physlab.med.duth.gr...

Here's some info on how to decalcify:
snoedel.punt.nl...

I also have this but never tried it... sounds crazy:

Keeping your Glands Primed (anti-dote to calcification)

there are several ingredients that can be mixed together; they are;
and the below three can be taken together in a glass of water.

EDTA (preference di-sodium EDTA) = removes some types of heavy metals
but in particular de-calcifies glands.
add 1/4 teaspoon to one-quart of water (1-litre)

Borax (boron) = antidote to fluoride.
a few dollars from super-market (i think in USA they call it 20MULE???
or something like this??)
add 4 x pinches to one-quart of water (1-litre). what is a pinch? ...
just imagine you are adding a pinch of salt to your cooking pot ...

Sodium Thiosulfate = antidote to CHLORINE, cyanide, arsenic, some
heavy metals and de-calcification of glands in general.
this is a little complicated but not that much

buy sodium thiosulfate crystals (a few dollars) ... can be purchased
from swimming pool chemical suppliers or fish aquariums (gold fish die
when in chlorinated water) ... also hydroponic shops sell them ...
once you have the crystals ... add 1/4 tablespoon to a glass of water
(250 mls) ... now shake well and stir ... and if possible store this
in a glass bottle or plastic bottle and seal ...

now with an eye dropper .... add 20-drops from this 250 mls solution
to the one-quart of water (1-litre).

Good source of information here. Did you realize the girl in the picture had a microchip?

Another talked about substance would be a tea called Soma, Cannabis Sativa and Amanita Muscaria.

Anyhow, it would be nice if we could compile a list of the things mentioned above in your last post, where they are available for purchase and cost.

Good point. I'm always wondering about things that can cause cancer that are not currently being researched.

I wouldn't be surprised if that is a huge contribution to the rise in cancer.

I wouldn't say that dmt is one of the most illegal substances in the world today.
It's legal in many part of Europe, including Denmark, where I live. Actually there is a store that sells it quite close to where i live

I have heard that there are also exceptions in America, if you are part of a native tribe where Dmt has ritualistic properties.

I think one of the reasons it's so controversial (apart from it's potency) is that you have to take something called a "Maoi-inhibitor" (sp?) in order to be able to absorb it. The catch is that this inhibitor pretty much disables your liver/kidneys, so if you drink a beer, for example, it can be quite dangerous...

I would definitely not recommend trying to achieve by artificial means, however, as there is great potential for a negative experience & emotional setback.

What you mean like a doorway to your imagination?

We could call it an imagination doorway, although that wouldn't be very imaginative would it

Seriously though, I think the reason it's set up the way it is, is so that we actually know the difference between reality & imagination.
Imagine if it wasn't, it would be like living in an episode of Ally Mcbeal or Scrubs.

Noooo...
