I completely understand where you are coming from, my family is Roman Catholic, and they're hardcore to say the least. Now i'm an Agnostic gay guy, so you can see how we've clashed.

The way i got around the guilt is i stopped asssociating myself with the things that made me feel guilty. I use to trust the church as a child, but as i grew up i realized that it was all just a crutch, something to keep you distracted while autrocities were commited.

They want you to feel guilty, thats how they keep you within reach, you just have to realize when it's happening, and tell yourself you have nothing to be guilty for, your just living your life to the best of your abilities, for yourself, not some 2000 year old god.

FlyersFan said it best:
The best way I deal with Catholic Guilt (and yes, I'm Catholic - mostly) is to EDUCATE myself. The more I read, the more I understand the truth. The more knowledge I have, the more power I have. Personal empowerment kills a lot of guilt.

You have access to truth through the internet, bookstores, and the library. If you are still living at home, or out on your own, education is the best way to empower yourself.

This I fully agree with. I was raised in a home where my mother dominated. We went to church Christian Holy roller) each time the doors were open, and I remember the fiery sermons that threatened me with Hell for my lurid teenage thoughts, and men, don't lie to yourself, we all did it. This did not stop me from questioning the church leaders, who only used passages from the holy book.
I could somehow see the bigger picture. Then I read a few books, like Eric von Danican's "Ancient Astronauts" and some others. I had Questions to ask of the learned men who led and controlled the church. I was handed a Bible, King James version,(engraved with my name, no less) and told to "read it son, all of the answers you seek can be found in there." So, I did. I read the book, from the first to the last page. You know what happened? Now I have 100 questions for the preachers, and I was politely asked to leave the church, and never question the "word of God." I was also warned not to read other books, for they were "works of the Devil."

I too had the guilt for a time, until I became knowledgeable about religion, and saw it's true purpose, to oppress and control the Spirit, to keep it from the Ascension Process that we are all coming to shortly. My friends, lose the guilt, and the fears, cast them aside. Look deep inside to find that which you seek. Read books, search the net, educate yourself. Humanity cannot fail in this. We must Ascend. All of us.

study to prove yourself worthy. alot of church teaching is based on man-made concepts. some of those concepts were generated due to lack of data about the ancient past. now that we have so much accumulated knowledge of what happened all those millenia ago, it seriously validates the biblical texts, especially prophetical ones. anyone that tells you DON'T READ THE ANCIENT TEXTS! is robbing you and himself. even studies for pastoring require forays into old texts other than the bible. what they are worried about is that people will do a zeitgeist and miss the forest for the woods.

Hmmmmm, you encourage her to ignore her conscience, you seem to think that if she listens to a Priest it must be at odds with her true, inner beliefs and then in a dinner with her family you accuse their priest of pedophilia.

Sorry, no advise springs to mind.

Maybe look for a new girlfriend?
