Don't know, I expected a smaller aftershock in Papua, Indonesia after seeing what their seismograph just did, but instead I got a quake alert of 4.9 in the Phiippines.

I downloaded the program bud haven't gotten it to work. It keeps saying no data available. Is it working for you? Thanks again for the information.

I downloaded the program yesterday and found that sometimes their servers have problems getting thru. I understand that a firewall or going thru a router will slow the process down. Tonight when the 7.8 hit Indonesia I tried linking to their seismograph, and it took about fifteen or more tries of clicking ok when it said they were offline. I figured their servers were busy because of everyone else trying to link to the same site at that time. First try bring up the map, let it do its thing until it fills in the the flying symbol at the upper right stops blinking. Then click on a blue or grey triangle in the area you want to access. Then click on their taskbar where it says load real time data. Good luck!

Like I said in my last post, you have to be persistent till you get thru. Mine is working fine now that I am on their seismograph reading. If I can be of any help, just ask. Will assist if I can.

Thanks for that AnonymousATS! I am not even going to pretend I understood much of that but what I did understand, it would seem that this is what could be going on here.

Contribution of tidal forces into seismic process

Analysis of the earthquakes catalogues shows that high seismic activity reveals in areas of high concentration of the tidal energy.

The highest activation of the seismic process is observed in December, whereas the lowest is in April. This is true practically for all analyzed sub-regions of the Pacific basin (the Aleutian Islands, Alaska, Kamchatka, the Kuril Islands, Japan, Oceania and others, 31 sub-regions in total), including the Northern as well as the Southern hemispheres. It is shown that the growth of seismic activity in time coincides with the time when the Earth goes across the point of perihelion (minimal distance to the Sun) and this is when the value of tidal force increases by 6.3%.

Yes, I watched that one on GEE also, but just as I was reading your post, I finally got the quake alert from firefox, mine must be a little slow.

Glad you got the program up and running, its been nice to be able to watch some of the active areas around the world with it.

Yes, mine is working, it stopped briefly just after the 4.9 was showing but picked back up shortly after.

Have fun with it! It's quite a handy tool.
