The term Magic Negro came from a song that made the rounds sung to the tune of "Puff the Magic Dragon" and referred to his impossible promises and
was not racial in nature. Obama's promises are impossible for him to keep and it was a statement about that fact. Since his promises are not possible
the term Magic is used to describe them as he would have to use magic to keep his word.
There was a time that Blacks insisted on being called Colored, Negro and African American depending on the years you are talking about. 20 years from
now Black will likely be a slur and people will be here arguing over that.
Me, I like Cracker. My ex was Black and she called me that all the time. Her family used racial slurs around me so much I became immune. Blacks and
Whites are truly equal even when it comes to being racist. That is the real truth.
Remember, he who yells the loudest is always the most guilty. If you are touchy about this topic, odds are you are a racist and it is the guilt you
are reacting too.

I'm going to have to be blunt with this one because it's an open and shut case. For the sake of the discussion sure go ahead and talk about the
origin of the word negro. Talk about what it meant, how the meaning has changed, even why it's somehow acceptable for black people to use it. Talk
about how easy it is for certain people to become offended.
The bottom line is that if you have an IQ above room temperature you know what he meant. It is meant in a derogatory fashion and it is simply
unacceptable. Then let's leave it to good ol Fox news to let something like this "slip". I guess with Bush's approval rating on his way out of
office they are sinking to all new lows to keep their approval rating up. It is kind of funny to watch those sore losers in there sour stage.

I want to congratulate Vor, kyred and Jesobecky, for getting it!
The source of "Barack the Magic Negro" comes directly from the liberal Los Angeles Times.
www.latimes.com...
If a liberal makes a racist statement, and a conservative points it out, does it make the conservative racist?
Everytime I hear something about "Barack the Magic Negro", I hear about Rush Limbaugh, Paul Shanklin, and now FOX News, but NEVER do you hear about
the liberal LA Times....Why?

I don't know if someone's mentioned this (they probably have but I didn't want to look through all the pages to find out), but "Barack the magic
negro" is a parody by Paul Shanklin (who does many a political spoof), which is a spoof of "Puff, the magic dragon".
I'm sure the author of that message simply took it as a play off from that song.
A sort of inside joke.
Edit: Ok, I see someone HAS already mentioned this .

These people aren't pointing it out, they are pushing it along. Like I said, it's the intent that goes into what is said. It's kind of like the
difference between a black comedian making a joke and a white comedian coming along try to say the same thing. The difference between laugh with
somebody and at somebody.
As for conservative of liberal, I could care less. The LA times should be taking heat because they gave the others the idea.

Just like the term "Whitey" is a disrespectful term, even though it means "white," "negro" is just as bad as well.
In other countries the word "negro" is not considered racist, but like you said, this was with racist intent and Fox should have moderated it. We
need to move past race, and past partisan lines. I am no Obama fan but I am willing to give the man a shot, because he is the President, and appears
to have good intentions. This was obviously a reference to a letter sent around the Congress, but it was also pretty racist. I am tired of the race
card being played, but this definitely qualifies it. Now, as for the other political story of Obama's senate replacement, that is not racist, as many
many many people have been claiming...instead the Illinois Governor is simply insane.

To me this shows fear. Fear of Obama and what he stands for.
He is white as well....why do I not hear more about that?
Hey Cracker...lol...Hey Cracker...!
At least the comedians will have some material to comment on. I hope Chris Rock gets a edge on this.
Speaking of Chris he is on HBO tonight. Shoot the Messenger. Should be good!
A little of the real "puff the magic dragon", t bone steak and Chris Rock on a friday...sounds good to me.

So THIS is the kind of thing that gets 5 or more pages of replies in less than a day.
I wonder what person came up with this distraction in the first place. Bravo! to whoever you are. Mighty fine job indeed (pure sarcasm). What is
going on behind the scenes that this was meant to divert our attention from? Any other news getting this much attention? Are we seriously going to
let this be the next Brittany belly-button ring or Brad and Angelina divorce 'scandal'?
Clearly, my mood today is the epitome of the word unimpressed.
Don't sweat the small stuff people, if for no other reason than that's exactly what they expect you to do.

And I don't find racism funny normally, I just don't like Obama so naturally I don't say anything protesting people making fun of the guy...

The question that can be asked is if the chance would be considerable that anyone would associate McCain with his skin color.
It is a basic and universal function of people all over the world, that they will identify other people using words which point out differences
between them.
For example, if I go to a village in Africa, I am not "A tall man" I am "A white man" This is not racism, it's just putting people in an easily
identifiable box for later reference.
There isn't really anything other a white person can say to describe Obama other than "He's a black guy" Like you would describe a fat guy as, a
fat guy, if you were describing him to policemen. How would you describe Obama? You could say he's tall, got dark hair and uhhh...
Easily identifying people and putting them in boxes is not a problem when it's for the purposes of easy communication. When you start to pre judge
somebody based on their colour or appearance, that's when problems start.
There is undertones of racism coming from the whole magic negro thing. But lets all remember, racism is discrimination, subtle jabs about someone's
colour is called free speech. Inciting racial hatred is a whole other kettle of fish.

The use of the term "Majic Negro" is simply:
insensitive, rude, impolite, discourteous, bad-mannered, insolent, uncouth, offensive, ill-mannered, vulgar, boorish, disrespectful, crude,
tasteless,i nconsiderate, loutish, brash, rough, unrefined, shameless, thoughtless, unkind, uncaring, inappropriate, unsuitable, unfitting,
incongruous, inapposite, improper, unseemly, tactless...etc.
This is Unacceptable Behavior and Quite Immature.
