Israel demands monitors as part of a Gaza truce
news.yahoo.com
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Israel demanded international monitors as a term of any truce with Gaza militants, as its warplanes bombed the
parliament building in Gaza City Thursday and its ships attacked coastline positions of the territory's Islamic Hamas rulers.
An international agreement to set up such a force would give Israel a way to end its devastating, six-day offensive against Hamas, even as thousands
of Israeli ground troops massed along the border in anticipation of a possible land invasion. So far, the campaign to crush rocket fire on southern
Israel has been conducted largely from the air, and a poll on Thursday showed most Israelis aren't eager to see a ground push.

Well what do we have here? is this a shread of hope? I think it's possible at least some expectations are coming to light form the ever deffiant
Israel, of course monitors would need to be place to support a cease fire, but monitors of both sides would be needed in my opinion, and just as the
world thought that this conflict was going into full ground assualt, here we go possible bargaining afoot! Way to go Israel! start acting like a
responsible country and learn to give alittle! IMO the world is tired of this conflict and wants it to end.
What chance for peace is there really going to be unless both of these countries step up to the plate and start making some sacrifices in order to
show good faith intentions. This is a start it may not be a huge breakthrough but it's a start an an eye in the right direction.

I sure hope so. It would be nice for the killing to stop. I hope by international monitors they don't mean US troops. Our boys are already bogged
down in the ME.
Good info S&F!

They need to have non-Israelis and Arabs to be the monitors. There needs to be impartiality, no bias and side taking. Where do monitors like this come
from?
ShaunmanX...I agree that US should not be involved here.
But yes this gives a glimmer of hope at least for a truce.

humanitairan aid where it's needed, then those heads of Israel and Palestine can come to some terms and attempt peace!

I can't wait to see what comes out of this. If they want truly independent monitors I would say ask the Japanese. As far as I know their government
has no vested interest in the views of either side. I feel that Europeans may side more with Israel, as would Americans. Arabs would side with the
Palestinians. A truly neutral party would be best IMO.

well here's the problem with that, not all of the human beings killed over there were/are terrorists, some of the dead included civillian women and
children, should they in your opinion deserve(d) to die? www.abovetopsecret.com...

Well, it’s a pretty damn good request.
If you get someone non biased to either side, stating facts like
- Amount of rockets fired per day
- Amount of progress by the government to eliminate a militia amongst its people
Maybe some would understand what Israel's receiving.
Because, from what ive read, Israel are trying to alert citizens around bombing sites via phone calls and pamphlets...
aRESIDENTS at certain addresses in the Gaza Strip have been receiving unusual phone calls since the Israeli air assault began on Saturday - a
request that they and their families leave their homes as soon as possible for their own safety.
More unusual than the recorded message is the Arabic-speaking caller, who identifies himself as being from the Israeli defence forces, The Australian
reports.
www.news.com.au...
On the same hand, the Gaza strip is becoming a slum, a 3rd world city full of isolated angry Arabs being denied a free sense on their apparent ''
shared piece of land ''
These Arabs are obviously going to become agit8d.
Why cant Israel include Gaza in its economy, but let the Palestinians build, produce and travel on their land as they see fit..
similar to the Vatican.
so long as Palestine allows its profits and economy to be one with Israel.

I completly agree, I bet if Isarel would at the least give then those tolken
rights, that Hamas wouldn't be firing rockets into their backyards, Let them move freeley on their own land being a key factor ans well as building.

I wonder if in conflicts past that they were just both to blinded by their own "wants" to reconize the rational of these simple efforts? would they
have brought everlasting peace? who knows but they make alot of sense to me I agree good post Agit8ed!! star for you

Well you have to see this for what it really is. This is not peace. Hamas and his militants have moved underground. Reports have been coming in
that the air strikes have slowed and Israel is running out of targets. All this and the rocket fire still continues.
This is not peace. This is an option. With monitors on each side it would be reported when militants start to fire rockets. Israel wants somebody
to be there to say hey, you broke the rules; because at this moment they are the only ones being held accountable for them.
I will say this again, this is not peace. The conflict remains. As long as Hamas is still in charge the conflict remains, it would just be put off
for another day.
Just because the violence stops doesn't mean peace will come. Peace is not a break to resupply and make more rockets.

I don't think Israel could let the Palestinians travel freely on their land. That would take a certain degree of trust. I agree that if everything
was forgotten then it would be possible. There is just no way that could happen right now.

Completly correct just a step in the right direction, IMO a good play by Israel to attempt the windown of military action, not because they have run
out of targets, if that was the case then the ground assualt would have already begun.

Regardless of who's in charge there will be an end to the current fighting. That will be the first step in hopefully resolving this 60+ year old
conflict. I hope that this will work to help end this all and get these two sides back to the table.

Your right,At least it is a step in the right direction, but I agree with what you said and I doubt if Israel will do a turn around on this one and
continue with the ground assault. And what is the consences on bothe sides having these monitors? will Israel accept them or just claim Palestine
needs them?

I hope not. Hopefully (I know that it's a big stretch) the two sides will take into consideration all of the civilians that are being killed. I
really wish that there was a rule that opposing leaders who want to go to war should be locked in a cage and have a fight to the death. I think
something like that would make governments think twice about going to war. The problem with governments is they're not the ones who usually get their
arses shagged in a conflict. It's their populations.
One can wish right?
Sorry about my rant but I hate war and killing.
