Iran to Arabs: now time to act over Gaza attacks

www.reuters.com
TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's president told the Arab League, which meets on Wednesday, it must act quickly to end Israeli attacks on Gaza Palestinians adding that setting up a committee or making speeches was not enough.

But Mahmoud Ahmadinejad did not suggest any specific action by Arab states, some of which had been criticized by non-Arab Iran for not doing enough to help protect Palestinians after more than 380 had been killed.

"If the Arab League does not want to do anything today, when does it want to act?" the president told a rally in Zahedan in southeast Iran.

"Aren't these oppressed Palestinians Arabs? So when should the capacity of the Arab League be used? The Arab League should act quickly," he said in a speech broadcast on state television.

Are you out of your mind? We're one of their biggest customers. Without us they'd probably go bankrupt. Since they're so dependent on oil and we're so at this point right now addicted to it... what would the economic gain be for them in cutting off oil to us? Their financial system would go kerplut like the rest of the world.

Yes, the end of what is going on in Gaza is very easy - the 'palestinians' should stop their continual rocket attacks into Israel and they should BEHAVE themselves with Egypt. Then Egypt will open it's borders back up to them and Israel will stop it's self defense against the rocket attacks.

The answer is very simple and it all is dependent upon the 'palestinians' playing like civilized people.

But alas, Iran just wants an excuse for war against Israel AND the leader of Iran is a meglomaniac who wants some attention.

since 2002, 22 israelies have been killed by rockets

11,000 palestinians have been killed in revenge.

get some perspective here.

Wow!!! What is the source of the numbers?
22 Israelis were killed since 2002 - is totally wrong (around 2000 is more like it). 22 killed by rockets - is irrelevent since all 11000 Palestinians (and this number is also puzzling) were not killed in "revenge?" for rockets. There were no rockets from West Bank and yet Palestinians and Israelis were killed there.
There were more Palestinians killed then Israelis - nobody will argue with that. But it is still not justifying playing with uncomparable numbers to make it look a lot worse.

the numbers actually came from the big thread , saw them and copied *without checking first* , which by my own admission was a tiny but silly error

looks like someone posted a numbers website above - but im sure like all `body count` websites there is some variation along the way

The only perspective i get from these casualties is that Israel has bigger and more powerful rockets then Hamas.

As long as there so much hate between the two sides this will just keep on going.

I think Israel should be stopped. Iran is right to stand up and call on the world leaders to make them stop attacking the Gaza strip.

On the news the other day I saw a baby probably younger than 2 who had there arm amputated! I saw a few other children with blood all over them but it was the baby who really caught my eye. When things like this happen you need to take a step back, if it was your child how would you feel.

Iran has always been generous with aid. They have taken in a tremendous amount of refugees, and their aid camps have been called the best in the world. They do it all on their own dime too, but THAT never makes the news huh?

And how would most people feel if their land had been stolen? If they were being systematically starved to death? If their family was dying for lack of food and basic medical supplies? If their kids were blown up by foreign bombs?

Oh we both know what they would say...they would say they want to KILL the OPPRESSORS! But yet somehow, so many seem to think the Palestinians should just die quietly and not cause a fuss. They should turn the other cheek and make nice with the people that are trying to wipe them out.

Everytime Israel does this, starts bombing and killing HUNDREDS to "prevent and avenge" the death of a handful, or in some cases no deaths at all, they surely must know they are pushing already desperate people over the edge and turning them into killing machines that will be on a mission to get revenge.
