Israel pushes ahead as Gaza assault enters day 5

news.yahoo.com
GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip – Israeli leaders decided to reject an immediate 48-hour pause in fighting and push ahead with the devastating air offensive against Hamas, sending jets and assault helicopters to pound targets in the Gaza Strip for a fifth day Wednesday.

Israel is facing growing international pressure to halt the assault and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert discussed a cease-fire proposal — floated by France's foreign minister — with his foreign and defense ministers overnight. The meeting ended with a decision to continue operations, government officials said, and a top forum of Cabinet ministers entrusted with security matters will discuss the continued offensive Wednesday.

I mean seriously. We've (when I say we I mean the US) already been through like how many wars? You'd think that other nations would take a hint from us and stop fighting each other because they would see how violent war is.

But didnt I see that Hamas was not going to go along with a cease fire? So if Hamas is not willing to meet Isreal halfway, then what is Isreal to do?

good point, but wouldn't the situation "calm" down if Israel were to have observed the 48 hour cease fire?

"Let the bodies hit the floor, let the bodies hit the floor".
"Blood makes the grass grow, Kill, Kill, Kill"
"you took my last oreo, dieeee"
"Dont blame me, I was told to do it"
"Yea, I was just out, takin a walk, and bam, some guys head blew off and left a stain on my shirt"...

This is NOT a caring world people. It is survival of the fittest, not survival of whos right and wrong(Although it should be).
The Government and the military dont give a crap about bodies, they train their soldiers to do one thing, and one thing only..KILL!!!!
No matter if it is the USA, or any other country, its the same worldwide.
Their motto is "kill now, cry later".
Most of the time the people who are fighting, dont understand why or what they are fighting for, they just fight. Sure, they brief you on why you are fighting the enemy, but they dont tell them the reasoning behind it, because it really doesnt matter. They just care that you do one thing right, and thats to kill.

You can sit here all day long and cry and try to get people to understand where you are comming from, but in the end, nobody really gives a # what you think. You are not the ones playing the game, you are meer spectators. Isreal and Pakistan have their own thing going right now, 50-60 years in the making. Of course it is going to end up with us comming in with our stars and stripes to save the day, but so will the red flag, and all other major flags, And theres nothing you can do about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So let em kill themselves, because I am sick of playing Dad. But no matter what, DAD gets involved one way or another, no matter how much he tries to avoid it. This isof their own making, not ours. Where was everyone else when we needed their help? regardless of if we had the right or not to fight(cause it doesnt really matter)? Where were our brothers and sisters at when we called on them to help us with our problems? i will tell you where, NOWHERE! but us as Americans, the bleeding heart of the world, reach out to anyone and everyone we can, because thats our role, even if they hate us. Punch America in the face, its ok, we will still love you. Laugh at us after 911, and burn our flag, its ok, we will still send you support to help your people who got blown to pieces, because THATS HOW WE ROLL!!!

Final words from dad- Take everything they have thats good , and make em play nice before giving it back.

But we're so bogged down in Iraq right now. What makes you think we can support Israel right now? DO you think that we can create troops out of thin air?

you've got a point there.
but maybe an early moving out of irak (war is pretty much lost there)
so they can finally begin on their new target, Iran!

Unfortunately we're committed to Iraq right now. We signed the SOFA agreement with them which requires us to keep our troops there for 3 more years remember? The violence has been dying down and they want us to stay a little longer so we can defeat Al-quaeda there and they can implement their government. Since they already have us committed I don't know where else we could get troops from. If we pulled out troops from Afghanistan that would be a problem for them and we would lose a potential ally. So why don't we have someone else do the protection for us? Why can't Europe and the UN do it? That's their job. Why doesn't the UN ever do what it's supposed to in a situation like this?

youre right about Afghanistan, to much to do there.
but wouldn't Iran be a great motivation to move out of irak?
maybe let the UN be stationed in irak for ''peacekeeping''.

or the UN or EU has to intervene in Isreal, but ''they'' don't like to send their precious ''peaceforce'' to a dirty war.
the learned from the WWII and don't want to spend that much money.

Good point, but I believe reservists that are currently stateside would probably be the first to be deployed to Israel if the U.S were to get involved, although they could send combat divisions rotating back from Iraq as well. God I hope it dosen't get to that point.

Hamas wanted to discuss a cease fire and wanted the blockade of the Gaza strip lifted, it was Israel that rejected it.
I think it is also important to point out that Hamus stood by the cease fire even though there where unrealistic sanctions placed against them, lets not to forget the 49 Palestinians killed during the ceasefire either.
