Iran hardliners register volunteers to fight Israel
news.yahoo.com
TEHRAN (Reuters) – A group of Iranian hard-line clerics is signing up volunteers to fight in the Gaza Strip in response to Israel's air
strikes that have killed at least 300 Palestinians, a news agency reported on Monday.
"From Monday the Combatant Clergy Society has activated its website www.rohaniatmobarez.com for a week to register volunteers to fight against the
Zionist regime (Israel) in either the military, financial or propaganda fields," the semi-official Fars news agency said.
Israel patrols the coastal waters around Gaza and has declared areas around the enclave a "closed military zone."
The hard-line Iranian group, which is headed by some leading clergy, says it has no affiliation with the government

Iran joining the conflict? not good i'm affraid does this mean that if things get out of hand and Iran fighting aginst Israel that might force
America into the conflict? I hope not but I knew that it would not be long before others began joining in, could this be the continuation of the
powder keg about to explode? the start of WW3? bad thing are happening here and I don't think it long before the west has to join in to help it's
ally Israel, what do you think? Is this the beguinning of the end?

No it isnt good. But to expect other Arab nations to just sit there and watch their fellow peoples get slaughtered while being surrounded on all sides
is dreaming. It is going to provoke them to take action.
Cheers!!!!

Iranian volunteers joining the cause of Hamas is not going to lead to World War III! During the Lebanon-Israel conflict of 2006 we have witnessed
Iranian volunteers fighting alongside Hezbollah with no real involvement of Iran itself.

Well that makes me feel alot better,I was not aware of that I'm still trying to learn about all of this and research the last 40 years of the
conflict, I just hope that Iran as a whole does not become involved.

As far as we know, Iran's nuclear capability is only limited to energy production...as far as we know. Hopefully this time, the CIA and NSA have done
their homework right and hopefully they Iranian's have been honest with the world and dont have any real nuclear bomb capability...yet.
We can only pray that they dont.

Lets hold the faith that they dont really become involved. Alot has changed in that area since 2006 especially with the Iraq war and the threat of US
going to war with Iran itself.
Just because they didnt do anything in 2006, when there was no one threatening a war with them, doesnt mean that they have the same attitude today
with the US pointing the war finger at them.
Never let your guard down..that is the worst thing to do in a unstable situation.
Cheers!!!!

My question is, if the Iranian vollenters start taking casualties(and they will) being Iranian citizens how long will it be before more are needed as
well as the rest of the country pushing for re enforcements?

Lets see if it goes that far..I dont think it would. But again, as I said in my previous post, alot has changed in the last 2 years over there. We
cant just assume that everything will be peachy hunky dory.
I am holding the faith that it wont escelate too far. But with the tensions there and the US war drum beating on Iran's front door, anything can
happen.

I certanly hope that Iran doresn't feel the need to prove anything to the U.S or Israel for that matter because if they have any kind of chip on
their shoulder then we can all expect the worse I'm afraid.

Keep in mind that Israel is supported by the US, and recently the US has made threats of going to war with Iran. Put 2 and 2 together and try to see
it from the Iranian prospective...what kind of picture do you see?
Not a good one at all IMO.
This may very well be the fork in the road. I really think that what happens next, regardless of how much Iran does nor does not get involved, is what
the next move is by the US.
Cheers!!!!

You are right I think, but then that all goes back to the things we were discussing in the other thread about Bush staying in office and all of that
leading to horible things down the road.

Exactly. I am hoping actually that I am wrong, I dont want to see a major all out war either and I dont want to see reasons for Bush to enact his
Patriot Act "keep me in office" clause either.
But we are all riding on a very thin wire and someone is going to tugg on it and either get us to the other side safely, or snap it and down we all
go.
Its something I try not to think about too much. I just keep the faith that humanity will make the right choice in these modern times, even for those
over there in the troubled lands of the middle east.
Cheers!!!!

Combatant Clergy Society? nbot sure how much weight they have
Last June, one of Iran's vice-presidents, Esfandiar Rahim Mashai - also one of Ahmadinejad's top aids - created a terrific storm by declaring
that Iran sought the friendship of the Israeli people. A great many traditionalists including some of Iran's most important Grand Ayatollahs
immediately protested, demanding that Ahmadinejad fire the erring official. Not only did Ahmadinejad refuse to fire Mashai, he took him along with him
to New York last September for his annual appearance at the United Nations. Last July, one of his top advisors, Mohammad Norizadeh, castigated the
clergy for their interference in government affairs. "Can you stay away from the work of the government and pay your collected funds (gathered from
devout followers) to the Supreme Leader instead

Serious question -
How many citizens of your country - wherever you are - could be called on to serve in the Israeli military in such a conflict?
In Canada, I knew several people who took up dual Israeli citizenship - and have military responsibilities to Israel as a result. It's part of the
deal.
What's the practical difference between, say, a 3rd generation Canadian Spanish Jew - whose family has not set foot in Israel for uncounted
generations, taking up the call to fight on Israel's behalf, and Iranians wanting to do the same?
Not much from where I sit.

Iran is not a nuclear power and even if they could produce a few meazly low yield fission weapons it pales in comparison to Isreal arsenal of 200+
warheads which includes high yield thermonuclear weapons. Iran would literall cease to exist if they nuked Israel.
