Have you ever noticed how real life trolls are like trolls on the internet? It's like an internet forum. Almost exactly like one.

You see these real life trolls going on spewing propaganda and saying false information and then you have these false advertisers telling you lies to get you to buy their products. These are like the trolls online that try to get you to buy something that you don't really want when you're shopping online. Then you have these trolls in the intelligence community that are counter-productive to progress and they get the world into more wars. Like Vladimir Putin and Dick Cheney, they're both trolls, they're trolling the rest of their world with their false ideology. Only the difference between these real life trolls and internet trolls is that the real life trolls are able to have access to more people who don't know that they're trolls and don't know how to react to them and they can just get away with anything. The problem with real life is that there aren't many moderators so that these trolls like Bush, Osama Bin Laden, Sarcosy, can't be modded or suspended from real life. We have to deal with the actions they initiate and what they do.

Also... look at these religious trolls in real life. They want to troll other people by imposing their religious values on other people. This is like the internet religious troll that cites texts from the bible to tell someone what they believe in. These real life trolls are like the people who are internet trolls but again they have more potential to do harm to the world because they have access to more people who don't know any better.

So my question is that we already know how to limit the damage that internet trolls can do. How do we limit the potential damage that these real life trolls can do and how do we contain them?

I think we need to contain these real life trolls so they stop trolling the world and the rest of society. We need to mod religion when it gets out of hand and keep religion on topic and we also need to have a mod on the Governments of the world and with what they do. We also need to have a mod on what dictators do so they don't blow up the rest of the world.

I think we need to have moderators and administrators that would deal with these trolls. Am I the only one that thinks this way? I think we need to have a system for dealing with real life trolls... I'm sick of them trolling humanity.

The problem lies in translation of text online.

You can't tell if someone is being sincere or just trolling sometimes..

that's not saying you can't ever tell.. but it is hard.

The policing part by admins can become sticky as well. You get too "gestapo" like, and you drive away the sincere people that enjoy the free speech atmosphere.

The trolls have been, are and will be around till humans gasp their final breath.

Hey I was expecting to see photos of short green people, probably under a bridge and carrying a club. And these people you mention don't even have enough warts to be real-life trolls! While I admit in a way that Bush does try to go around "collecting tolls", he actually destroys bridges, and in America he wouldn't hide under one for fear of possible collapse.

And don't leave out the people who troll for points on this board by posting thread after thread after thread. I don't think they care what answer they get as long as they get replies to add to their point total.

I can't help but feel that this is a troll post, seeing as it has the very definition of trolling wrong. Maybe I'm being trolled right now? That would be kind of meta.

Whaha...nice one. Get it Frank??

Come on man, a few weeks go i've been defending a thread you started called " I want socialism" and for 17 pages been fighting off all kinds of opinions but not once do you add to the conversation ,only when the thing seems to die down then you reply.......bit of a disappointment. But i could offcourse verywell be mistaking and you're to busy with other threads but why start one if you're not going mix in the conversation???

No personal attack, just asking...

Peace

Yeah, about that thread... I didn't pay attention to the thread for a while and then it expand beyond what I thought it would expand to. I just left the thread for a while and then I went back to it later and then I didn't feel like catching up to it all and a lot of the posts in the thread were over my head. I actually DO make it a POINT to discuss things in most of my threads... usually I'll chime in when I understand things that are being said... but when I don't respond to a thread for a long time it just means I'm away from it. I had one thread about Fox News earlier that was pretty long about the Obama and friends special and the terrorist thing and that was a really long thread so I did respond to it... but... I think it would be silly to think that I respond to none of my threads. But... anyhow... yeah I don't need to go on about it.

TwiTcHomatic, I see your point... it is hard to tell if they're trolling or not in real life. I think what we would do would be to at least limit what they can do and how detrimental their actions would be to society. I'm getting sick of these real life trolls.

Don't take it as a personal assault ,i guess i was just a little ticked about the whole "i want socialism" thread. I put a lot in it and i was a fun thread, thankx for putting it out there.
As for your other threads, You haven't been to long on ATS, just as i, but you put out some interesting threads out there and they are much respected by me. Keep it up....

Well put S for you. I was going to start a thread about this topic, but decided I should search first, and found this one.
Here's part of an article on Trolls from Sophos, here's one paragraph near the end of the article on how not to feed the trolls.

Don't feed the trolls The first piece of advice is one that should be familiar to us from fairy stories: "DON'T FEED THE TROLL". If an internet troll is demanding attention, don't give them any. Responding to them can just feed the flames, and encourage them to post more offensive remarks. Eventually they should grow bored and disappear. As tempting as it is to fight fire with fire, you'll only be pouring fuel on the flames if you respond in kind.

Same methods apply in real life, don't feed the trolls, or troll the trolls back if you are board and looking for entertainment.
