Sleepy for sure!! But i hope she wakes up in 2 weeks, time for the 2011 roadtrip!! I plan to spend more time in Glacier natl park this year, but want to to the Shoshone Lake Geyser basin. 16 mile trail, overnight backcountry is the theme this trip. Youve all seen enough of the pictures from the road. Im leaving on the 22nd, so if you see strange rythmic earthquakes between then and the 7th of Aug, thats probably me just banging some Kottonmouth Kings!! For those who miseed them, here are the 2010 pictures that i took forever to post. Pictures Here. Ill try not to screw my back up again this year, which is mostly what lead to taking so long to get these up. 2 weeks in that Camaro got to me, but this time i have the Epidurals in me....im INVINCIBLE!!! Montana/Wyoming here i come!!

I am not far from great falls if you pass by here.. U2U me I have lots of land to play on and maybe some greens after the spring harvest.

glacier is really nice but it gets old and crowded fast. there are some more unknown spots near me where i ride that are like unknown hidden mountain ranges with 100s of miles of trails untouched by sight seeing trash leaving litterbug tourists.

Enjoy your trip and don't overdo it!

If you happen to get the chance, and this may sound as odd request, I would be interested to find out the location of the water gauge on the Lake exit and what it looks like.

Should I mention microseisms???

For those of you interested in microseisms a little birdy told me that Wikipedia now have an article on it

Yes, I know it is Wikipedia, but the person that emailed me just 10 minutes ago (on a Sunday evening for him) is someone pretty high up in the USGS who should be listened to, so I assume the article is OK.

Yellowstone Recent Status Report, Updates, and Information Releases
YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO OBSERVATORY MONTHLY UPDATE

YELLOWSTONE VOLCANO (CAVW #1205-01-)
44°25'48" N 110°40'12" W, Summit Elevation 9203 ft (2805 m)
Current Volcano Alert Level: NORMAL
Current Aviation Color Code: GREEN

During the month of July 2011, 54 earthquakes were located in the Yellowstone National Park region. The largest was a magnitude 2.1 event on July 8 at 7:33 AM MDT, located about 9 miles west southwest of Old Faithful, YNP. No swarms were recorded in July.

Earthquake activity continues at relatively low background levels. For a map of recent earthquakes, please see:

www.seis.utah.edu...

Ground Deformation Summary: The period of caldera uplift that began in 2004 ended over one year ago. Since then, the caldera has been subsiding, though seasonal deformation from ground water changes may temporarily mask the trend. Please see: www.uusatrg.utah.edu... for a map of GPS stations in the Yellowstone vicinity. For a graph of daily GPS positions at White Lake, within the Yellowstone caldera, please see: pboweb.unavco.org...

Sorry bro, didnt get this message until after i had already returned. The main changes i noted this year is an uptick of activity at Mammoth, and the Yellowstone Lake levels were much higher than last year. Fishing Cone was underwater....all in all, the water levels were up all over the area.

Nothing like first hand information with a reference point due to your previous travels to the park.
I must confess something. For the longest time, I kept telling myself to look at your photos from last year.
One day, I sat down and look at about three quarters of them. Ever since, I've been trying to take a moment and watch them from the begining, and finish this time. You're back already and I still haven't coordinated myself enought. I'm life is totally unravelling. Please no pity. I've grown a tough as old shoe leather. I just wanted you to know I really liked them, and appreciate your efforts. I'm sure you've had something you kept meaning to do, and life kept getting in the way. I wanted viewing your photos to be like a sort of mental vacation. A meditation.
Keep up the good work.

I'm certain that the reduced pressure after the two major swarms is the cause of Yellowstone being extremely quiet. But when you state that water levels are very high, I wonder if this is helping to keep a lid on things. The geyers may be more active because there's more water, hence more pressure. The extra water could be cooling off the plumbing and absorbing the heat of the caldera. Well, not absorbing completely. Transfering the heat.

One question. And it has more to do with the natural enviroment rather than the big lava lamp. I've been trying to find time to read the following article. (shut up robin- sorry) It is about the wilderness suffering and negative changes to the ecosystem. It shows a picture of dying pine.

Did you notice differences in the forest?
Or did the extra snows and obvious wet weather green up the place?

www.mensjournal.com...

Also, were there any forest fires anywhere near Yellowstone?

I watched the whole slide show. Excellent pictures. They really helped me get a grip on the size of the park. Forget about all the amazing scenery and formations. Hell, I even thought the pond scum was fantastic.

It wasn't quite meditation. I had a report on financial inequality on in the background. My mind is divided, but it's all I got.

I could even imagine myself there at the park. When I saw your tents. I love tenting. A bear ate my tent once. I had my food stung up a tree. But that didn't stop him. A couple days before that he woke me up. My feet smelled like cheese. I think that's what brought him back later on. He destroyed my site. I didn't hold a grudge. It was an adventure repairing and drying my things. I adapted and survived. And I'll always have the story.

Has the current earthquakes had any impact on Yellowstone?

Just asking the experts

Cheers

Folks, I'm starting to wonder/worry here - are we looking at a renewed uplift???? It's been sooo quiet but I have been watching this and now need to get your opinion -

Having a hard time uploading This

If one of you would be so kind as to screen shot it - if not - I'll do it when I get into work tomorrow.

Well, according to that station, there's seems to be a change and a return to uplift. I wish I had a little more time right now. The YVO deformation charts seem to be behind. I'll be back.

Thanks Robin.

Hooptie333 maybe the increased water levels are from the excessive amount of snow they had last winter.

Here's is the photo for the link I posted above

I make that about 10mm since March. That is significant unless this GPS is showing this in isolation.

5 posts to page 700 by the way.

With all the current disasters in the world, I'd prefer Yellowstone to not get busy.

I truly hope that Yellowstone is staying in a somewhat peaceful state of mind, because if she goes, the world will feel the effects and not many will survive past 50 years after the eruption.
I do not wish to fear monger, I am just beimg realistic.
Be safe and well.

Yes Annmarie, i will agree there. Some of the trails i was hiking in Glacier natl park were still snow covered. Yellowstone was thawed, but the people there also said they had a longer than normal winter.

PuterMan

Do you think what we are reading on the YS seismos for Today (red line) at
00.15 MST
07:30 UTC

is also a kind of microseism?

It's reflected on all working seismographs
