Whats going on at yellowstone?

i am little confused..

was the 4.6 at yellowstone a no show or not?

Well tried to display a screenshot of the USGS website. Unfortunately my computing skills have fallen from grace!

Basically it is (was) showing approx 20 eq's in the last 12 hours.

Are these genuine?


Some have been removed again including a couple of 3's

At this point,. it could be very hard to know what is a real quake,. as the equipment
may not be reading correctly,. or there has been a deliberate manipulation of data.
I remember in Dec.08 there mere many "adjustments" made when the park was active,.
I still find it odd that this "issue" has been going on for a few weeks now,. Kinda why I think
someone is adjusting the gear,.
I know fracking was thrown around as a possibility,. But that would be just insane if it really was a cause..

The guy who scraps the ice of the telemetry dish works only Monday to Friday. And it's obvious he's taking off early on Fridays. Whatever is or is not going on with the maps, I've stopped caring.

I think I can trust the webicorders. So that's what I watch. There are enough of us here that watch, so when we see a real quake or swarm, I'm sure one of us will post on real events. I would suggest not even posting anything alerts or maps until you can check it on the webicorders and you determine is real and in the park.

If I check the webicorder first, I don't often check the maps unless I see something that appears real.

OK I just got up - drank a little bit to much and was trying to clear the cob webs out of my head - opened my e-mail and and jump started my heart -

Got an e-mail alert saying a 4.6 in the park - - then -- it was deleted - now just opened the USGS web page -

Did they delete a bunch more or is it just me? I swear when I went on earlier there were at least 12 and now there is 4?

That has been happening lately. They said its a software issue

I think its down to, computers auto post and man deletes as fast as possible.

Internet is all over this. The rsoe shows 12 for yesterday, most over 2.0, If this was a software issue it would have been fixed ages ago considering what we are a dealing with. There would also be a pattern in term of time the quakes get deleted if this were a software issue.

Right now the usgs is saying there has been no quakes.

All that is going to happen if the Internet is all over this as you say is that if they get too much flak the service will be with drawn.

It is perfectly obvious that these did not happen, but RSOE is a pathetic useless site that I would not look at even if it was the last one in the world.

The big problem here is that the people who are 'all over it' have zero understanding of earthquakes and the means whereby these get to the databases.

That Robin is exactly right and if people like RSOE did that more often there would be less problems.

When I go to USGS I still see only 4 earthquakes today...am I looking at the right site? To all the regulars of this post...would you even consider today to be swarm? People were going crazy on the internet earlier about this and I guess I'm not sure why?

Nothing really to be heard actually. The big blue splodge is interesting. I can't find anything that matches it quakewise and it sounds a bit odd. More like water in the pipes (or magma in the tubes )

I don't actually see any today. Don't worry about what you see on the Internet. Honestly, until you see us here running around like headless chickens, or you are posting on the thread and no one is answering for a day or more, you can take it that there is nothing to worry about.

Out in big bad internet land there are things called conspiracy sites, with people on them who have not got a clue what they are talking about. Then there is ATS. Whilst it has it's share of conspiracies of course, this thread and Quake Watch, Volcano Watch and any threads started by regular members of those three will generally be level headed.

If we say PANIC, just say "How much?" otherwise just chill, relax and let the world drift past you without a care or worry! Well not as far as earthquakes and volcanoes go anyway!
