"Kinda of like the sticks and stones sorta thing...it takes two to tango"

Wrong...

It actually only takes ONE to defame, harass, slander, disparage, and belittle - the recipient is the victim.

Thanks for blaming the victim. You make the world a better place.

"If you are really paranoid about people talking about you then I wouldn't put them on ignore. "

Thanks for not offering any solutions.

You would rather a person remain victim than have an automatic notification sent via U2U installed so that an offender is warned against replying to a victim, and all because that victim has opted to place their attacker on ignore so as to better shield themselves from the abuse. How crude.

You would force a victim of harassment, slander and defamation to either endure the abuse, or ignore it and let their attacker continue to disparage the character of the victim.

Would you treat a 'real-life' victim of harassment and defamation in such a despicable way?
*(Here are some example: stalking VS cyber-stalking, Bullying VS cyber-bullying, sexual harassment VS Online sexual harassment)

*If you wouldn't, then are you saying you are biased against those same people once they are online?

Huh??...we are still talking about the "igone" option here on ATS right??
I for one would like to see another button added for people who just seem to troll around here on ATS so i can "mark" them and follow them around every thread and give them my opinion about their point of view...
I believe we are all grown adults here and most are very smart. They don't see people who just make ignorant claims or numbskull remark as a problem but more a challange to try and reason them into a corner....i know i like that.

oh ps: there are no people in my ignore list just friends.......

That was a solution, of sorts. Okay maybe not a good one, sorry..

I never mentioned anything about notifications sent via U2Us or anything, so kindly don't make out that I'm against the idea.

To answer your question(which reads more like a statement), NO offcourse I wouldn't want a victim to remain a victim. What sort of question is that anyway.

I know for a fact that victimizations of any members on this board isn't tolerated. Period.

Have a little faith in the moderators. They do a great job!

You would force a victim of harassment, slander and defamation to either endure the abuse, or ignore it and let their attacker continue to disparage the character of the victim.

Again, NO I wouldn't!

Just wondering, can you point to any examples of harassment, slander and defamation of any members on THIS BOARD?

No, I don't differentiate between cyber bullying or real life bullying etc. Both can have an equally detrimental effect on the receiver.

Getting back to the ignore list.
When you say "notification sent via U2U, so that an offender is warned against replying to a victim". What exactly do you mean?
Are you saying they can't reply to any thread that the alleged victim is in or what?

Just to clarify, the ignore button wasn't intended to filter out abuse. There's an alert button for that.

I see the ignore feature simply as a way to filter out member who's opinions you don't want to read about. You might do this if someone gets on your nerves etc. That sort of thing.

"When you say "notification sent via U2U, so that an offender is warned against replying to a victim". What exactly do you mean?"
I mean a n automated function should be used to warn those who have been placed on another member's ignore list.

This warning would also include a request that they not reply to the member who ignored them, or make any remarks about that member. A point deduction followed by a post ban would be an excellent way to enforce this rule.

However, the victim has no way of seeing the posts of someone on her ignore list, and therefore is not able to report on them.

That is why my system would only work some of the time. (ie. when the victim removes someone from their ignore list only to find out they have been attacked for the past two months, or if a victim's friend notifies her - then action could be taken)

"No, it doesn't allow for vicious personal attacks. At the bottom of every post is an Alert button. If the post is offensive, click on it."

Wrong.

If someone is on my ignore list, I can no longer see their posts and thus cannot 'Alert' on them when they attack me.

'If the post is offensive, click on it.' - Sorry, Can't...

You are correct; you can't see the insult, but everyone else can (everyone that doesn't have him/her on ignore). And someone will most likely report it.

You do not need to be a victim of insults. ATS is very clear on that, and they strictly enforce the rules. That is what makes this site one of the very best in terms of encouraging open member participation in threads.

If you have problems with a particular member, I encourage you to use the avenues provided to alert the staff. You'll be pleasantly surprised, I'm sure. And as time goes by, you'll agree with me that this is a very member-friendly site.

If you have any questions, feel free to u2u me, or any member of the staff (I'm not staff; I'm just a member like you, but I've seen a lot). We will be glad to help.

Cheers, and happy posting!

jso

Thank you for the clarification. In principle I have no problem with your suggestions.

The poster above is right , ATS is members friendly and I'm sure after a while you'll see that for yourself.

Cheers...
