I imagine you could u2u them in order to let them know you put them on ignore.
I wonder why tho, if you choose to ignore them wouldn't you want to cease any communication with them and letting them know they are on ignore might
fan the flames of whatever incident occured that forced you to resort to ignoring the other person.

I have been here for years and never placed one single person on ignore. It seems to me that if I'm considering such a drastic step I probably need
to hear what they have to say the most.
To each his own I guess.

My understanding of the "ignore" function is that is simply a personal filtering tool should one find it necessary. I don't think it is intended
as an instrument to make a statement against another. I suppose you can always them know via U2U if you are so inclined.
Of course I could be in your "ignore" list and this post is for not.

are you an eight year old kid who had his feelings hurt? If you are, then keep doing what you're doing.

What exactly am I doing..heyo? If youre going to ignore someone...which, I guess, is reasonable...why would you attempt to "let them know" that they
are on your ignore list. Do I have my feelings hurt? No...i could care less if anyone places me on an ignore list...it would just further prove my
point of how lame that is.

If you are putting someone on ignore, or doing anything else which represents some higher power you have over them, to let them know you've
excercised such power serves only to heighten the potential for confrontation. If you put them on ignore, they will be ignored, and they will stop
talking to you. Letting them know they're on ignore is an unnecessay move that only adds to potential hate, hurt feelings and the like. Basically, a
childish thing.

So, are you agreeing with me...or disagreeing??? I was commenting that it is lame to let someone know that they are on your ignore list...even to put
someone an ignore list is lame in my opinion....

Just proclaim it in the thread - that's what most members of ATS do. Its very simple and a crude method of dealing with ignored members, it tends to
cease drama in a thread too.

People who reply to people who have placed those people on ignore should be banned.
When I ignore someone, I am basically giving them a free pass to say anything they want about me and I will be unable to refute it as I will not even
be able to see their posts.
It is ironic that the ignore function that was made to 'protect' us, actually allows for more vicious personal attacks to be made against the
victim, who cannot report these attacks or offer any refutation.
An alert system must be developed so that a punishment system can be enforced. The membership must not be further victimized for choosing to seek
refuge behind the ignore button...
Such attacks are 'Basically, a childish thing' - and should be treated as harassment, as from an adult.

Yes, but that is a choice that you make.

No, it doesn't allow for vicious personal attacks. At the bottom of every post is an Alert button. If the post is offensive, click on it. It allows
you to enter the reasons yo find it offensive. It goes to all staff members, so it has high visibility.

"No, it doesn't allow for vicious personal attacks. At the bottom of every post is an Alert button. If the post is offensive, click on it."
Wrong.
If someone is on my ignore list, I can no longer see their posts and thus cannot 'Alert' on them when they attack me.
'If the post is offensive, click on it.' - Sorry, Can't...

If someone is getting under your skin enough that ignoring them is the only possible course of action, just ignore them. You don't need a button for
that.

Know Your Enemy
I have a modest proposal that will solve all these issues.
Start a thread on which people post the names of people they've put on ignore. Then we'll all know who loves who and life on ATS will become much
gossipier and more fun.
I'd start the thread myself, but sadly I have never put anyone on Ignore.
