I find it hard to believe Christians have a lock on this idea.
They don't. The Jewish Tanakh (The Christian Old Testament) and some groups of Muslims (from the Hadiths) believe in a similar figure as well. Christians believe in the same one prophesied in the Hebrew texts and the Islamic prophecies post date them both so neither would have answered your question which is why I didn't dwell on them.
However, I think you are missing something that might be pertinent. The three Abrahamic faiths predict a savior-like figure (The Messiah for Judaism, Jesus' Return for Christianity, and the Mahdi for Islam). All three also predict a nemesis to these figures (he goes under many names in Judaism, he is the AntiChrist in Christianity, and is the Dajjal in Islam).
So the 'hero vs. nemesis' concept is found in the three Abrahamic faiths. Then there are other religions, mostly eastern and new age movements, that teach a coming future figure who will be entirely good and nemesis-free. None of them predate the Jewish prophecies as far as I am aware.
Also, judging by your second post to this thread, it shows me you might possibly be looking for something that meshes with your current skepticism instead of finding the truth in this matter. Again, to my knowledge, no other religious prophecy states a figure will come onto the scene merging all religions, the prophecies that at least predict a future religious or government leader do not precede the Judeo-Christian prophecies, and finally, not even the Christian prophecies necessarily claim the false religion will be an ecumenical movement (although it is possible).
An important factor that must also be noted is that the religious prophecies that do foretell of a future character mostly deal with that religion being pressed forward and they will not be ecumenical. For instance, Christians believe Jesus will set up Christianity as the world religion, Muslims believe the Mahdi will set up Islam as the world religion, etc.
There is no prophecy I know of that specifically foretells of a merging future religion, nevertheless one that predates the Judeo-Christian prophecies.
What if the Christians produce a leader that brings all religions together? How could he be the AC?
If it is a false Christian who ushers in some perverted Christian doctrine then this is a possible scenario. Also, remember there is a difference between the false prophet and the Antichrist. The AC mostly deals with government and the FP mostly deals with the future false religion.

Absolutely. I do agree with you, but to an extent. Which leads me to:

So I'm to understand everyone will be fooled? except the Christians?
Not necessarily. We're told this deception will be so grand and so convincing that 'it would deceive even the elect, if possible.' Basically, even Christians may be taken aback and second guess themselves when the AC first comes on the scene. This is why in the same context Jesus told His audience to pay special attention to His warnings regarding what to look out for.
The Judeo Christian prophecies give very detailed prophecies. If you heed those, you'll be able to spot the identity of the AC/FP when they take control. We're also told a countless multitude comes to the Lord during this time. So, no- Not only [current] Christians will see the light because there will be new conversions and even current Christians will have to be vigilant.
