At the height of the Roman Empire, the Romans had an estimated 37 major military bases scattered around their dominions. At the height of the British Empire, the British had 36 of them planetwide. Depending on just who you listen to and how you count, we have hundreds of bases. According to Pentagon records, in fact, there are 761 active military "sites" abroad...

And here's the other half of that simple truth: We don't care to know about it. We, the American people, aided and abetted by our politicians, the Pentagon, and the mainstream media, are knee-deep in base denial.

Now, that's the gist of it. If, like most Americans, that's more than you care to know, stop here...

i have some questions

your source claims thete were " only " 37 major miltary bases throughout the roman empire

would your source please define these 37 - and define what they class as " major " as hadrians wall had 14 [ minumum ] serperate forts - and britain had 100s more

as for the british empire - the claim of " only " 36 bases is laughable - in what year are you polling the ` brittish empire ` ???
the MOD currently has > 36 bases in norther Ierland ALONE - thats after closing scores

the bitish empire in the 19th and early 20th century had hundreds in india

heck -during WWII the list of RAF bases in the uk alone comes to over 600

So please stop peddling false and misleading " statistics

I agree with ignorant_ape. What constitutes a base? Do you honestly beleive that the British Empire at its height only had 36 bases worldwide?

If you are talking about 'super-bases' then you may be right as superbases par se didnt exist in the days of the Roman and British Empires.
