Anything is possible. Terrorists like to kill as many people as possible, so an inaguration would be an ideal target, plus you get the new leader and a major symbol of the USA (meaning the capitol building).

I would hope so... He told me I if anything goes down we should have a plan to get out of town because it would be caos, if we try to contact family members the phones wil prob be down because when 9/11 happened all phone circuits were busy in our area and mom couldn't call to see if he was ok.

For many millions the inauguration of Obama will be an amazing historic event. The media will be covering it HOURS before and after.

What better time to interrupt something so distinctly American and so overly hyped as this. Not with a homeland strike by terrorists but draw the attention away to a terrorist attack against soldiers overseas. While we are partying and celebrating and enjoying,,,the moment is shattered by Breaking News.

I refuse to believe the US Gov is going to undermine itself and all of the policies and legislation it has put in place, the shredding of the Declaration by legalities and wording disputes. Too much has gone into getting things here the way they are and one wrong move could undo all of that.

Better to carry it out against a "symbol" of Freedom (or oppression if you are the "enemy") The soldier.

Pakistan and India in big rows lately setting the stage for a strike on Afghanistan and the huge number of soldiers there already with more on their way before january 20th - to a newly built facility doncha know.

The inauguration will be interrupted but not by anything here at home.

Maybe a few loonies in the crowd that get hauled away but the real Breaking news will be Massive casualties from Terrorist strike in Afghanistan.

The US Gov is stepping all over your freedoms and civil liberties and for now it's allowed, another terror strike and people will be asking too many questions about how it could have happened when they made so many changes to safeguard the people. They need something BAD to happen to pull us all together again but not at home, and certainly not now (yet).

Obama will be out of the DC area until literally moments before he gets up to speak and back out again within a few minutes of getting off the stage.

If the info your Dad related is true, and I'm not saying it's not then there are two scenarios to consider...

-The government knows of an impending attack and they will take action to prevent it.

-The government knows of an impending attack and they will purposefully do nothing about it, or are the ones that are planning it.

I find it strikingly odd that Obama wanted military around him when he swore into office. I had a little prediction of my own that something would happen and it goes like this:

9-11 = Twin Tower Attack/collapse

11-9 = Attack Economy and bailout Time

1-19 = ?????

Then again nothing might happen. This is just a prediction.

I would think your father is taking all of the media and web traffic information and making a theory. There is plenty of speculation and his own VP said he was going to be tested. There are plenty of people not happy with his election. As well, lots of presidents get shot at, shot, killed while taking or carrying out their term.
I see this as a smart man preferring to err on the side of caution, rather than say nothing and let havoc wreak.

With that said, its not outside the realm of possibility that he knows something more specific, but doesnt want to alarm. Making suggestions keeps him in the clear, because it can be backed up with speculation, while still trying to give you a warning not to be anywhere near that place during the ceremony.

You really have to judge for yourself, but if my dad told me something like that, I would probably just makes plans to go somewhere else and watch it on the news. I hear North Carolina is nice in January.

Well lets pray that nothing happens, because if somthing does happen, then that means that this country will crumble. I dont even want to get into details, but it would be bad, as in the worst we have ever seen.

Don't know whether there will be a bomb dirty or not but it will be dirty. I believe they said there would only be one toilet per 300 people. Most people don't queue until they need to go.

Another thought, what ever happened to the missing Barksdale cruise missile? That would be interesting if horrifying use.

If you are going to plan a terrorist attack, you do not pick the strongest defended point to attack. If there is an attack that day, it will be where someone isn't looking, the west coast for example.

I think the OP's subject line is not correct. I think it should be modified to assassination attempt on inauguration day. White supremacist groups are not terrorists, for example.

From what I read, his dad didn't give any kind of warning, just what is common sense. Every inauguration is the same type of security issue.

I know people keep referring to the shoe throwing indecent and thinking that security isn't good; but think about it people. The man was checked for weapons. A shoe is NOT a weapon. How on earth can anyone react fast enough to a reporter throwing a shoe? Big difference there.

I doubt BO would stage any kind of attack on inaugration day, he wouldn't be stupid enough to put his family in any kind of danger no matter how well planned it'd be.

For those into keeping your feet on the ground - Obama was once listed as a 'muslim' in his school papers and his middle name obviously is of interest to Muslims. However, he has repeatedly stated that he is not now Muslim and therefore the fanatical radical muslim extremists will see him as a traitor to Islam and THEY are probably more likely to try to take him out then any half baked white supremists in this country. - IMHO

Obama will never take office.

Interesting topic. Perhaps the Mumbai attacks were just a practice run for an attack on a major American city (i.e. DC). Tactics always change throughout a war, the British and Americans practiced beach landings before the invasion. Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups have had a lot of time for ground combat as oppossed to strapping bombs to their backs.

But, as another has stated, you don't attack the strongest point or where the enemy expects an attack. The US and the world will be focused on DC, expect an attack somewhere else.

That said, you just never know. They could see this as an opportunity to cause havoc.

Just my two cents.

There will be no metal detectors on the mall. The crowd will basically be just one big party. How easy is it going to be for someone to slip a backpack filled with explosives in, and set it off at a crucial moment, say about the time Obama takes the oath of office.

it would be more likely that a hate group would try to disrupt the ceremony / inauguration...to make a point and create a cloud over his administration.

Of course, a faction of gov't zealots that do not want a mixed-race person as the commander-in-chief could manipulate any susceptible group of muslims, white supremists, even religious end-timers to cunduct harrasment & disruption of the inaugural transfer of power...
so that extreme enforcement of the patriot act powers would be implemented--
maybe even a temporary martial law enforcement, say 30-60days



if i were still up in DC, i'd make it a point to go camping..maybe up River -> west of Georgetown by 25 miles, to a spot popularly known as 'bare island'...

I gained security clearance after several months to patrol a defense contractor site in the UK. But there were several areas I did not have clearance to enter, things I was not permitted to know.
Engineers and office staff there also had varying levels of clearance for different positions and areas pertaining to their duties.

This is the case in every nation. It makes it harder for an enemy to gain information if that information is spread between ten people.

Based on what the OP has said about his father, it is very possible that he has clearance for different areas at different levels to enable him to do his duties.

As for the fears of what could happen... Anything could.

If it is from outside, they may decide that this is too obvious and too difficult, and so will wait for another time when it isn't expected.
But, it would make a big statement. It would make a massive impact.

I am suspicious about the many warnings that have come about in recent months. So for that reason, I have thought that there could be a false flag attack.
In that case, if this is a possibility, it would be a perfect opportunity because they could blame whoever they like, and the entire world would be watching.

Ultimately, we all know something is on the way, from somewhere. Intelligence services use the term "chatter" to describe higher than normal levels of communication suggesting something is being planned, and we have seen our own form of "chatter" over the last few weeks.

It is a big target, so personally, I wouldn't be there. If I lived in DC, I would probably be leaving for a few days while this plays out, just to escape the crowds more than anything else.

If my dad told me what your dad told you I would just ask him point blank....dad do you think it is safe for us to be here or should we leave the area just for safety sake on the 20th.

I would think if something is going to happen that it would be before Obama was sworn in or then Biden would be President. If Bush is going to be there I don't think anything would happen then it would have to happen when he wasn't in the area yet this way he would still be President and able to proclaim Martial Law and issue his Executive Order to stay as President in the time of War and ...... we are screwed.

Then again everything mightt just go off safe like clock work and everything is just fine.

If I were you I would be safe and go some place safer on the 20th and I would make sure to watch which way the wind was blowing and if anything does happen go in the opposite wind direction.

What if "they" really wanted Biden in charge of the country?

Can't remember who brought it up, but what IF Obama is set up to fail, boom he's assassinated and Biden takes his place.

The reason they did it this way was because they knew we the people were looking for something different, very very different from what we've had for the last 8 years. They chose Obama. Regardless of any of his political beliefs or associations, the main focus (from what I've observed in the ol' MIA) was his COLOR. No one cared, or knew what he was really about just that he was BLACK (half black yes I know but he's clearly taken his stance on that). So they figured it'd be a great little scheme you know?

Set up the fall guy (Obama), place Biden as his VP, Obama goes down, then they have their real puppet working for them.

Just a thought...might be too far fetched... but oh well haha
