Are my eyes and teeth not part of my overall health?

My husband and I have discussed this subject many times. Why on earth do we need seperate health insurance for our eyes and teeth when they are all a part of one body? Is this just another way for the insurance companies to rape the wallets of working people? Can anyone provide an answer that makes sense?

They will tell you each requires its own speacialist (Dentist or Ophthalmologist), thus different billing terms, different network, blah-blah-blah...

I wish I knew, I can barely afford regular health insurance let alone dental and optical. There are so many people I know that are living with pain and cavities just because they can't afford the thousands of dollars it will cost them to visit the dentist.

Also, alot of people I know are walking around with squinty eyes. I guess we should just be lucky we can put food on our tables when compared to other parts of the world!

I am lucky enough to work for a company that pays for its employees health insurance but the insurance company has been trying to get them to start charging over what it pays and out of pocket for employees that are deemed (by the insurance company) overweight, those that smoke... things like that. When does it end? Like the stories from some homeowners, I wonder when the day will come when I break a toe and am told sorry, your toes aren't covered!
